Hi! I'm thinking of subscribing to PlasmaDesign.co.uk, but I'd like to hear your feedback, first --

How comparable is it to those 'nature' and 'abstract' wallpapers that come bundled with Mac OS X? The Mac wallpapers are beautiful, rich in color, and detailed, but not so much that they clutter up your screen (i.e. they're still very soft and smooth). Can you say the same about the Plasma wallpapers?

Bah, on an impulse, I grabbed a credit card and send some funds over to PlasmaDesign.co.uk -- and I'm sorry to say that it was NOT worth it.

I mean, sure, the guy takes high-res images, but a worship-worthy wallpaper designer, he's not. The reason that I like Apple's default wallpapers so much is because they're designed to be just that: you've got crisp-clear images (just like PlasmaDesign), but there's also a liberal application of the Gaussian blur in all the right places so that the wallpaper, while containing focus points, is attractive at each and every point.

The biggest mistake that Rob (the guy who runs PlasmaDesign) makes is that his photographs and renders are either too busy (e.g. the infamous 'dewdrop') or contain spaces that are painfully stark and bare, like his photograph of the coloring pencils.

The guy has nice ideas, but he needs to apply some serious thought to them.

Sorry, not to be a total asshat, but I'm dying of laughter over here at the thought that someone would actually pay for desktop pictures.

I would love to check if that Splash pic from Aqua collection looks nice on my 17" PowerBook, but pay for just a wallpaper...

mosey over to Resex and look for the aqua slideshow screensaver. DL, pull the images and decide, if you like it enough to pay.

supporting an artist is never a bad thing... and if you are lucky enough to have the 30" well DTs are going to be rediculously hard to find... maybe paying becomes the only option.

HA! - tiling a 1600x1200 can you imagine?!?!?
