10.4.7 made Safari scrolling jerky (proof attached)

I was disappointed to find that the recent 10.4.7 update made two-fingered-touchpad-scrolling extremely jerky in Safari. In order to make sure that I wasn't just imagining it, I got a copy of 10.4.6's Safari for comparison, and there is a definite difference. Check it out for yourselves:
1. Open a relatively simple site that has more content than will fit in the window (like forums.macnn.com) in 10.4.7's Safari.
2. Scroll around with two fingers on the touchpad. Do it smoothly, up and down.
3. Download [defunct]
4. Open the same site in the older instance of Safari, scroll around some more.
I demand that Apple fix this, as it is gross and disgusting, and makes my MacBook Pro feel like a Pismo.

As a Pismo user, I find your post gross and disgusting and I demand a retraction.

Yeah, I noticed. Can I replace the new safari with the 10.4.6 version? What am I missing out on the 10.4.7 version if I do this.

You could simply keep both around and rename the 10.4.7 version to Safari-Jerky or something. :-)
I don't have any changelogs regarding what was changed in the new Safari.

Safari 2.0.4 (10.4.7) scrolls terribly. Safari 2.0.3 (10.4.6) is much better. I have confirmed this on three different machines; MacBook Pro 17"/15" and a 20" iMac Intel.
try using www.apple.com/macbookpro as an example to do a comparison. Just horrible!

Does this also affect users running Sidetrack (and without the two-finger scrolling)?

Don't see any difference between my scroll wheel mouse and trackpad scrolling on my 15" MBP. Feels like before with 10.4.6.

You sound like me! At last someone else has a trivial issue but, that's weird... nobody's making fun of the person for posting the issue... hmm... I guess I'm just way too picky or something.

I got the same problem but only with the two-finger touchpad scrolling! the sidetrack scrolling seems ok! i think this is not only a safari problem. it seems, that it is a system wide problem since 10.4.7. is this problem somehow related to the problem with the 10.4.7 delta upate and the missing opengl files?

Does that old Safari come with the webkit? Because I experience the same thing in Shiira with 10.4.7. An ever so slight stutter when you scroll by at medium speed, and I didn't have that before update.

In Shiira everything seems normal. No problems. Do you have found a solution for this? i reinstalled the 10.4.7 combo-update but this did not solve anything. this bug(?) is really annoying and i wonder why all the others don't have this problem. Didn't they notice it or do they simply not have this problem?

Might any of this have anything to do with the published fact that Apple botched the Apple Intel 10.4.7 updater? Apparently there is an issue with the OpenGL component..... the updater available online is updated with the fix.
Are you guys on Intel Macs?

Hmmm. I guess it may not be quite as smooth as before, but it doesn't really bother me that much.

If anything my scrolling is actually smoother with 10.4.7 than with 10.4.6.

yes om Intel-Mac. Macbook 1.83. I think this is a problem of Intel-Macs only. Some others guys on Intel should have the same problem, shouldn't they? it is not really obvious but noticeable and it only is a Safari-problem. Shiira is ok, although it is a Webkit-browser. Very strange and yes i have the combo update installed... I hate this!

I have a PowerBook and my scrolling is messed up. I'm currently using the 10.4.6 safari. This isn't a problem just for intel macs only.

I noticed the jerky scrolling with the arrow keys very first thing. Quite annoying.
This is on an old G4 dual 867. PowerBook 1.5Ghz and Intel iMac are unaffected.
I did a combo update thinking something may have gone awry, but it still is very jerky scrolling with the keyboard. Using the mouse scroll however is smooth.

for scrolling on machines without the trackpad there seems to be a problem too.
With nothing else but Safari running, hold the down, or up arrow in...instead of the line-by-line scrolling when holding an up/down arrow get a mix of a line or two then it freezes...and jumps a chunk (like a paragraph or two). It does seem to jump in chunk sizes somewhat proportionally to the time one holds the up/down arrows...but is just unacceptable.
Checking the "smooth scrolling" option in Sys Prefs did not help.
Never seen this behavior before...ugly. (let me rephrase this, haven't seen this behavior in ages and ages, since the generations gone by of both software and hardware).

Yep, also got a slight amount of jerkiness in Safari. I hadn't even noticed it until I tested the 10.4.6 Safari side-by-side with the new version. For the record, I'm on a 12" 1.33 iBook, which means it isn't solely an Intel problem. *Glares at Big Mac*

Well, neither of them has Safari's smooth scrolling, so technically the problem is gone, or at least invalid.

I'm really, really glad they've made this change, as it helps a lot with the submarining text and blurring problems on the MacBook displays.

are you sure you downloaded the Intel version of the update... you could be running a Rosetta version of Safari 10.4.7...
