I thought it might be helpful to have a thread listing useful web sites that are viewable on the iPhone without any issues, and to request suggestions for useful bookmarks.
I will start it out with a request:
Has anyone found a good weather site that you can view ANIMATED radar loops of various locations in the U.S.? I tried intellicast, but the looping doesn't work.

The question at the end of your post is valid, but the first part of your post is not... At least in MY experience. I haven't found any (non-Flash) sites that haven't worked just like they do on my iMac or MacBook on my iPhone. The iPhone -- again, except for Flash, for now -- does have the real Internet. The bookmarks synced from my computer work exactly the way they're supposed to on the phone.

I wasn't trying to imply that there weren't many sites that don't work on the iPhone. I started the thread with the hope of generating some useful "on the go" sites that you can bookmark on the iPhone.
I actually did find a radar loop on weather.com that seems to work, but the java loop on intellicast.com doesn't seem to work properly (not sure why)...

Maybe because the iPhone doesn't support Java?

I thought it did support Java, that's why I was surprised. Maybe it was just Javascript that it supported?

Moviesapp.com is *exactly* what I have been working on this weekend. I guess that project is now pointless, since his version is, honestly, everything I have been planning.
My bookmark contribution is iPhone Recipes - 101 Cookbooks

If there was a way to link the movies to the quicktime trailers, it would be better, though.

I've been using Weather Wunderground for years. Their NEXRAD radar can be loaded as an animated GIF that should with well with the iPhone.
Here is an example.

That's exactly what I am looking for. How did you generate a link like that, showing just the image? I would like to do this for the local radar for zip code 46460 (or just Grand Rapids, MI), and the regional version of the same area...

iSubwayMaps.com updated their NYC subway map for the iPhone, with the rest coming soon.

Goto this link, select any map display and animation options you may desire, as well as zoom level and then click the "View/Save this image" link in the bottom left hand corner of the radar frame. Bookmark that new image and enjoy.
Getting iPhone tomorrow, so I'll be doing the same thing!

Cool! Thanks for posting that...
Unfortunately, they don't animate on the iPhone like the do on the computer.
Once you get your phone, give it a shot and see if you find one that works!
Thanks again,
Jeff

www.mojits.com is a nifty app launcher
I think mockdock.com does the same thing, but I haven't tried it yet.

Mojits is pretty freaking awesome. I had emailed the creator about adding a program to it (MoviesApp) and it was done that same day.

2 very cool ones:
sudoku: sudoku.myiphone.pl
movies: showtimes.optimalconnection.net
sudoku is suprisingly fun and usable on the phone, and that movies website is so much easier than anything else i've found to get movie times. I think mossberg recommended both of these in an article i've read, but i've bookmarked them and used them a bunch already
Edit: The movies link above my post seems pretty cool too...hmmm

Unfortunately, unable to snag an iPhone today after visiting TWO stores and missing them by minutes. Wunderground radar works under iPhoney with latest Webkit download, but unknown how accurately this mimics all iPhone functionality. If I get it working when I can get my grubby hands on an actual iPhone, I'll post my results.
Fortunately, other good alternatives have been suggested in the thread.

Perhaps someone has mention this. I saw this and so far I think this is the most usefull tip to date - typing a period. David Pogue has received it through email from his reader Andrew McCallum (bless his heart).
Basically you can type a period with one rolling finger motion:

Weather Underground Update:
The iPhone would not display animated radar loops from the regular site due to their loaded file size and display size.
Well, while we were waiting, Weather Underground came up with an iPhone optimized site the other day.
It is BY FAR the best weather site on the iPhone that I have used. Also, it full animated radar loop.
Point your iPhone to: Weather Underground
Enter your city name of ZIP into the search box.

I've been liking Google's reader link:
www.google.com/reader/m/view
It's not iPhone specific, but the interface is nice and the feeds are customizable, and it's a very fast interaction with the site.
I also like Ta Da lists (has a nice iPhone interface), and Vitalist (again, has a nice iPhone interface).
Another News site:
iphoneatom.com/iphoneatom.aspx#_home (but I like Google's better; it's faster).
There's a bunch of launchers, but mojits looks great. One thing that turns me off from the launchers: Having to log in here and there! I usually end up finding the good sites from a launcher, then bookmarking directly.
