So this took a long time, but I finally converted my lady to MAC!
She bought a Dell 1530 and I tried with no luck to get her to convert to Mac and return the Dell, but it was not to happen.
I recently looked at the home computer and realized that no one was using it and just sitting in the corner. So I talked her into a iMac 24inch.
We picked it up Friday and I spent the weekend setting it up.
It is truly a monster, size wise

I will post the link to our .mac web gallery of the setup.
She has been on the Mac as much as humanly possible and truly loves it!
Now she is talking about getting rid of the Dell.

My quick thoughts on the iMac is that the screen is HUGE and super bright.
The brightness destroys my MacBook Pro 17inch.
The keyboard cable is way too short as is the mouse cable.
You can tell the computer is powerful, but 1gig of ram is way too little to see the performance.
Also the iMac is just a spectacular piece of hardware.

Congratulations on the new iMac, they're fantastic computers as I'm sure you're discovering.

I wish my Husband was as supportive as you. I just get ridiculed for prefering a Mac over a PC!

You do realise though that you'll be lucky if you ever get to play with the new iMac don't you =)

Yes, RAM is inexpensive these days, take a look here:

Needless to say you got a fantastic Mac there.

Of course they do care. But they are jealous.

I got my 24-inch iMac six months ago, shortly after they were announced. I was just amazed at the size -- convinced it was too big, in fact. My 17-year-old daughter came downstairs, wrapped her arms around the screen and said, "it's staying ..."

I love it -- as you will too. And good call on the RAM. I was stupid and left the extra 2 GB out for several months. Makes a HUGE difference.

Congrats to you and I both, I got mine a week ago and am astounded by the performance difference form my previous 20" iMac 2.1ghz G5.
4gigs of RAM is the way to go

Hey, it took me a bit to talk her into it

Well i think that once you sit down and use a mac or at least see what they can do, it is a huge difference and a big selling point.
I had to configure the new iMac and that took mosy of the weekend putting in all of the software that I wanted there and such so i think that my time with it has passed

I have also converted nearly 10 people in the office.

thanks for the post, i was getting lonely in here

next time i get ram, i am going to give them a shot again.
this time i did crucial for m,y macbook pro and the imac and so far so good.
i really love the imac...

I hope to make people jealous!
i did go all the way to 4gigs of ram i just gotta install it tonight.
i will let you all know how it works out.

I must agree the iMac is pretty amazing.
I think that it is honestly a marvel.
my lady friends kids have become Mac people within minutes and hate the Dell that they loved the day before.
they also love their iPods that I am rather jealous of myself.
I am hoping the ram makes a huge difference also because the 1gig sucked and make things unbearable...
my laptop was actually a lot faster than the iMac with only 2gigs. so the 4 gigs should make it scream.

you are all not going to believe this, but today she let me know that she wants to get rid of the dell and get a macbook pro...
15inch that is...
we are also going to get a 1tb timemachine as soon as it hits the shelves.

I have an iMac as well so I'm not jealous about that. However, I am extremely jealous that you have been able to convert your lady.

this is a super long story.
she financed a Dell, shortly before I met her. I tried to get her to send it back and convert, but the she said she loved it and wanted to keep it so i lost that battle.
I did not give up.
I waited till the kids needed her computer all of the time and they refused to use the old crappy celeron and could not get done even the most simple tasks in a timely manner. So I told her we would finance part of it and I would pay my hard earned cash on the other part. She went for that.
I also got the kids late gifts of iPod nanos.
She now loves those, and she is lucky that the pink one is out.
I am going to get one of those for her.
She also now wants a MacBook Pro 15.
After configuring the iMac I just had her sit there and use the music and photos and she was hooked.
The kids were hooked when I walked in the door with it and wanted to throw the dell in the trash and were poking fun with her all night how it sucked and mac rules...
now she does not want to be the odd one out in the family and has decided to sell the dell.
next come her parents. !!!

i have only one person that i regret bringing over because he uses me as a crutch instead of figuring it out...

No, I ordered the 4 gig kit from OWC.

I mean the most simple things that are not that hard to figure out, he calls and questions me all time about.
he brings his computer to work and has me work on it, on the clock so i am screwing up work time. life goes on though..

i noticed you have a WD My Book... wonderful drives huh? i've had mine for a month now and I absolutely love it! 500 gigs FW400/USB2.0

I know, most of the time I just say "how do you think you would do it" and most of the time they play uber-dumb. I think the problem is most switchers cant believe that a Mac really is as common sense as you can get because every time I show them the solution they almost always smirk and say "thats it"? I just wanna punch them at that point.

I must admit because of trouble that I have had in the past, there is nothing else that I use.

The funny thing is that this guy is supposed to be a web developer.
It is just nuts!

Yes I have the mouse plugged into the keyboard, and basically they both have the shortest cables that I have ever seen.
