OK, it's not like it's actually real news, as we have always known that Canada would get the iPhone... eventually.

Well, now it's actually been confirmed, although the timing is vague - sometime in 2008.

reportonbusiness.com: Rogers bringing iPhone to Canada

“We're thrilled to announce that we have a deal with Apple to bring the iPhone to Canada later this year,” Rogers chief executive officer Ted Rogers said on Tuesday in a statement. “We can't tell you any more about it right now, but stay tuned.”

I suspect Rogers will carry the 3G model right from the beginning (although they'll probably have the 2.5G EDGE model too methinks). They have a pretty extensive HSDPA network in the urban centres.

No, and not aybeeyoooowwt time either. It's about time.

Or is it Amok Time?

In any case, the statement of sometime in 2008 is rather vague. I suspect we'll see them in the summer, on 3G. In retrospect though, I wonder if they'll stick with just one model, since Rogers often has a habit of restricting selection that way. If so, I suspect they'd rather push 3G rather EDGE.

Hopefully their data plan doesn't suck. However, Rogers has gone on record to say that it doesn't really like unlimited plans (even though it has them).

Finally. Of course, we still have to wait until WWDC.

Too little, too late. I upgraded my Bell phone to a Blackberry Curve. Couldn't bear the thought of going with Rogers and figured I'd sit out another year or two with my Touch in one hand and Curve in the other.
