I have trouble accepting suppositions of what "real men" do from people located in France.

What makes a half English, half American male, who has fathered children any less of a man because he lives in France?

While its tempting to reply, to point out the make-up of the American population, I shall not allow this thread to be hijacked in an attempt to stop the truth about Halo and Call of Duty 4 from being heard.

It's a cultural thing.

Anyway, I think it would be more accurate to say that Halo is for people who enjoy killing a bunch of annoying teenagers over the Internet, whereas Call of Duty 4 is for people who enjoy sitting in broken-down houses for 15 minutes doing jack-all until somebody happens to walk in front of your window or you get stabbed in the back.

(I'm aware that there are other ways to play COD4, but this seems to be the most popular playstyle.)

Video games in general are for children. Of course both games cater to entirely different types of gameplay.

COD4 is about sneaky killing, and you can be killed within seconds. Halo is about arming yourself to the teeth for long, drawn-out battles against multiple opponents. Not to mention....Vehicles, equipment, invisibility, etc...

A cybernetic 8-foot tall war machine that can jump 10 feet in the air and has a regenerative shield would murder an entire match full of COD4 players.

Both games are awesome, are you just jealous Halo always has the most online players of any game?

I wasn't really being serious, jerk.

Edit: 25,000 people played Halo 2 over the last 24hrs. How many are playing the old COD games? Anyone?

On another forum, somebody said that CoD4 (fairly new, game of the year and all that IIRC) was played more than any other Xbox Live game. I can't verify this - haven't got Xbox Live yet.

Anyway, Sergeant "Soap" MacTavish has far bigger balls than Master Chef.[sic]

Considering Halo 3 has a minimum of 2 million matches and 800K+ unique gamertags every 24 hours I'm going to go ahead and call BS on that.

Edit: Dakar beat me to it.

Editx2: Halo 2 currently has 336,555,601 logged player matches.

The fact that more children play Halo 3 than adults playing Call of Duty 4 just proves my point.

Anyway some weeks its CoD4.

Master Chef pees sitting down.

/and then the demographics of Halo3 players are Googled

Must've missed this. You are judging Halo without an Xbox Live account. I see now.

I'll give it to you that the single player campaign of CoD4 spanks Halo 3's campaign...but since Halo 2 noone cares about that anyways, it allll about MP.

lol.

On a more serious note, I guess that I have to give Halo 3 more of a chance. I played it a bit then went out and got CoD4 (having been a CoD2 fan) and stayed up all night.

Halo 3's campaign isn't worth much more than a training course for multiplayer.

Get Xbox Live, come join the crew for a few meet-ups and then make your decision.

Otherwise I dare say you're not qualified to judge both games in any accurate manner.

I'm not comfortable yet with the thumb aiming (either in Halo 3 or CoD4) to go online. I actually think that the campaign is worthwhile for me to get used to the controls. I'll play them both, and someday I may just beat you on the battlefield.

/going home after a VERY long day at work - its 22H00 here in surrender land.

Just played (off-line) a bit of Halo 3, then a bit of CoD4. I'm shite at both so pwning Dakar and sek929 will have to wait a while.

And, a little question : have sek929 or Dakar ever played CoD4?

Does CoD4 allow guests to play online like Halo 3? I don't own the game myself but everytime I go over to my friends house, no can can figure out how to play with other people online. The four of us have to resort to just playing each other. It gets boring after awhile with the limited number of maps and game types. (Can you download extra maps like Halo?) To me it seems that Halo has a bigger variety maps and game types (CTF, Assualt, Territories, Rocket Race, Grift Ball, etc). Does CoD4 have something simular to Halo's theater? Can you save and post pictures or videos of your previous matches?

Don't get me wrong, CoD4 is a great game. The campaign is much better than Halo 3 but when it comes to multiplayer, Halo wins hands down.

COD4 doesn't allow guests to play on Xbox Live. You either have one player per Xbox and play on XBL or you have 2-4 players per Xbox and play locally.

And yeah, there are DLC maps.

You would probably pwn me in CoD4 online, but good luck not embarrassing yourself playing Halo against me.

Yup, played most of the campaign when I borrowed the game. Played a smattering of online at friend's houses and beat the campaign.

IMO a feature most games need to consider from now on. Halo really set the bar with theirs.

Also, I have yet to find a console matchmaking system that has the right to lick Halo's feet.

i will say it took some balls to post a thread title like this when the Halo 3 Thread has 1800+ posts and the Call of Duty 4 thread has how many? can someone remind me?

oh and on a side note,
when call of duty produces a ranking/matchmaking system (as sek said), vehicles, screenshots, videos, re-playability of campaign (with campaign scoring and 4 player co-op), customizable characters, did i mention multiple grenades and. vehicles

Real men don't need post count to show how rock hard they are.

Matchmaking? wtf is that? I'm already married.

Vehicles, not sure about on-line, but I've done : helos with machine gun, helos with grenade launcher, AC-130 gunship (25mm, 40mm and 105mm weapons), you can even carry your mate to safety !!!

Teabags are for kids, men skull f**k.

Yes, I have. Stylistically, I prefer COD (and the gameplay was not unappealing, at least 1 v 1). And there's no gay superjumping.

That said, Halo has more people, more modes (as far as I can tell), and COD4s level design didn't knock me off my feet.

And yeah, the theater mode is the ****. Not to mention Forge.

One of the criticisms of my PC using CoD4 playing clan was that the CoD4 maps were too small. Seem OK to me so far, but on-line playing is (to me anyway) a different game entirely.

Not sure if I said if before, but in CoD2 I only ever played Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag style matches. Search and Destroy (where you don't respawn), Deathmatch (everyone for himself) and Headquarters never appealed.

When I break the chains of servitude tonight, I shall try and get some Halo3 time in.

I don't play either game single-player on a regular basis. I think the online multiplayer for COD is a bit plodding and cheap (and this isn't coming from being defeated — I'm usually in the top half of the rankings). It's not apparent in one-on-one fights, but Xbox Live seems to work out to camp or be killed. This is realistic, because if you're a soldier in a field full of snipers, you probably aren't going to go out in the open. In COD, you're playing a realistic soldier with realistic weapons in a realistic environment (more or less). In Halo, you're playing a superhero with laser guns and alien hovercraft tanks. It makes for very different play styles despite the fact that both are in the FPS genre.

I'm putting my voice in for Halo 3's multiplayer and for CoD4's campaign. I agree that CoD4's campaign was highly addictive and the story it told was amazing! At the moment Halo 3 has churned out more DLC so it's multiplayer can be a little more diverse.

I'm trading in my CoD4 disc today for a new game. I played through the campaign and really enjoyed it. I tried some multi-player but I didn't really enjoy it. I haven't touched the game in months. But I will never trade in my Halo 3, that is until Halo 4 arrives.

I think it comes down to the majority of Americans are completely ignorant when it comes to France and its people, especially in regards to the Revolutionary (American) War and World War II. Carry on about Halo and other unoriginal and unimaginative games.

Warhawk offers an online battle on an epic (for a VG) scale... way beyond what Halo 3 dishes out.
