I don't use it as I am overseas and need public transportation directions. Even if it had it, I would still use Google Maps because my city is very barren in Apple Maps. Very sad state of Apple Maps still.

Yep, Apple Maps is in a sad state. One of the reasons I've been clinging on to iOS5 like grim death is that I'd hate to lose the integrated Google Maps app that works so well.

I'm actually quite happy with Apple Maps. There was a lot of weirdness for a while, but now that spoken directions can manage street names with Umlauts in them, and Siri is no longer a dead fish gasping for air in languages I don't understand, as of iOS 7 it's quite useful.

I also appreciate that it FINALLY does public transportation directions - by passing off to the app supplied by the local public transport. Google Maps did ****-all.

Strange that nobody commented about how this really should not be allowed to happen at the airport. I mean why should someone be able to drive that route shown in the article?

That's one of the many reasons airline security is a joke. Tiny airports have almost no security. You can get whatever you want on a plane there and not go through any security when you transfer to a real plane at a real airport.

If you're naive enough to use Apple Maps while driving through Houston and/or Dallas you're just asking for a bag of hurt. Some would say the continual and massive infrastructure projects they have going on every week would be a challenge for any mapping service, but Google seems to have zero problems. Any day now, I'm sure.

I am peeved. I submitted many bug reports to Apple regarding layout of a park of a foreign city and Apple continues to not fix the problem. One of many reasons why I don't use Apple Maps.

Last year I saw a woman get towed out of a ditch, due to her taking a left that wasn't there. She was hell-bent on following her Tomtom to the bitter end.

You don't have many big planes go to small airports though.

And those have the greater potential impact.

Besides, airline security *is* a joke, because nowadays, terrorists can easily target other objects that are not protected at all (mass transit, bridges etc...)

You misunderstand my point.

You take a flight from the small airport to a large airport, and then get on a connecting flight to a large airplane.

If it's the same terminal, you don't have to go through security again.

It's likely the small airport doesn't have a "look at my junk" scanner, and doesn't force a pat-down. Anything those procedures are supposed to protect against won't stop someone using this method. If there's a by-the-rules dodge around your security, the idea you have security is delusional.

I reported numerous mistakes of different kinds many months ago and nothing has been fixed yet. Maps is still pathetic and unreliable for me. It does look nice though.

Not having business POI updated is one thing, but in my case it can't locate a single address in the entire town my in-laws live in because they have hyphenated addresses.

I don't like Maps, I can't figure out how to turn all the layer crap off - I don't need hundreds of hotels, restaurants, stores etc showing up every single damn time I look for an address.

Your mileage obviously varies.

I've been using them exclusively for months, driving across Northern Germany, to various larger and smaller towns.

The only time it's screwed me was when I needed to meet up with a band colleague and there was a massive traffic jam. It completely failed to take that into account when calculating arrival time. On that occasion, I tried to get off the highway and find a backwater path to the meeting point, but the ****er kept pointing me back into the complete standstill that was the Autobahn.

Apart from that, it's been pretty much impeccable as far as driving instructions go. Siri even understood me when I needed to find a gas station, urgently, and made appropriate suggestions.
