Have you guys ever been attacked and injured by any? They are very mean birds, they almost always attack me. What sort of injuries have you suffered from?

The Roman legions used to use geese as sentries around the legionnaire encampment, between the moat and the wooden log palisade.
I think that tells you how fierce they can be.
Also, there's good research lately about how crows can remember individual faces regardless of disguises such as different hats, different clothes, etc. Crows do have large brains, but I think the research indicates that a good size avian brain can remember individual human faces.

Maybe we need a separate thread for crows?

I think he's suggesting that geese might be able to remember your face.

I see.
Damn, that freaks me out. They all look alike and kind of freak me out as it is. I guess I should give up on trying to pet them.

Male Canadian Geese are the aggressive ones. Every pack as 1 alpha male leader. It's this guy that is the trouble. He'll challenge pretty much anything that goes by. They're very, very antagonistic. Like a bull elephant that's always in heat. You have to stare at him in his eyes, and lunge forward at him. He'll get the hint. But if you get scared, he'll press.
Remember, they're just geese. A swift kick to their heads or their chest and they're as good as dead...
I wouldn't suggest cooking one if you do kill one. They taste terrible...

I once worked in a large office building on the north side of Indianapolis, and a flock of Canada Geese decided to hang-out at the employee entrance. Nasty, evil, mean, dangerous things. They would hiss and snap at anyone coming anywhere near them. And the volume of droppings they left around the entrance was unbelievable.

I've never been sure of how I feel about them being associated with Canada either.

A few months ago I was returning home from work and I saw a Canadian goose sitting by itself next to the sidewalk, facing into the road. It paid me no mind at all as I passed. I had seen pairs of geese in that area, so it didn't seem too strange.
It was still there the next morning, same spot, facing towards the road, and I realized it was grieving for its mate, which had been killed by a car.

I don't think its just Canada Geese. I think its all geese which are vicious.
|
I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

Canadian Geese deliberately leave their #2s right where everyone walks, on the track, on the sidewalk, I swear I've seen them leave one right by the driver side door.
P.S. Just showing off my sig, any Alyson Hannigan fans will appreciate it.

Good stories. They're territorial and annoying as all heck. I had to live with flocks of them on the coast line. And they're all over our parks. Best thing to do is, chase them away. In the end, you're just an animal like them looking for territory, whether it's a place to live, or a place to sun tan.

My work put up fake coyotes and hired a dog to chase the geese away. They still come around, but not as many. The ones near work don't seem antagonistic at all, but they are a hazard to your shoes.

Sadly, they don't taste like chicken. Well, maybe chicken that has gone bad. If they were delicious, we wouldn't have this thread.
