"Rock Star" was based on Tim "Ripper" Owens. NYT did a story on how he went from Judas Priest tribute to singing for JP. The movie was based on the story, so Tim got no money. He's in Iced Earth now and is (IMHO) the best singer out there. (He's no longer a Halford clone or wannabe.)

Got the new CDs yesterday and I have to say, they're just brilliant. But, the real gold is the included DVD, may be the best live disc I've ever watched. If you are, or have ever been, a fan of Journey, go out and buy this.

I had never heard of of this dude or even that Journey was back until I saw this thread, but I have to say I'm impressed.

I'll give you one name:
Paul Di'Anno
If you don't know who he is and what I'm getting at, then the point is lost.

I don't, but it's easy to link a youtube video to show a sample.

Commercially, hiring Perry was obviously the right thing to do -- it broke them nationally and they became one of the great arena acts of the 80's, and in hindsight, made some good records, but we all felt like they'd "sold out." Of course, that's what all teenagers say when their favorite unknown band hits it big, I realize. but now, it's just a revolving door.
And they're touring with Heart? Yeesh. (Don't nobody say nuthin' about Cheap Trick, though -- they still rule live)
