I hope someone can help me out with this. I called dell to see if they had drivers available or if it was compatible with Mac, but they said I would have to pay for support so I hope someone knows. I am visiting my parents and they have a dell A920 printer scanner and all that junk. I hook it up to my iBook to print and I can see the hardware but it will not allow me to add it to my list. Is this a driver issue? Or is there something else that I am missing. I apologize if this is a stupid question but I am tired and I feel stupid right now. Thank you in advance.

Probably not. Dell's printers are the WORST PRINTERS MONEY CAN BUY.... They have higher per page costs than everyone, are poorly made, and only work with their ink and toner.

Not to mention they are Windows-only.

Have your parents ditch that POS Dell for a Canon at $49-99 and they will be amazed how much better it is than the Dell garbage.

Dell's printers are made by Lexmark, so if you can find out the closest Lexmark model number, you might be able to use the Lexmark drivers, or better yet the Gimp-Print drivers.

I know they are Lexmarks, but they have proprietry BIOS's to Dell. It's part of the reason regular Lexmark Ink won't work in a Dell printer even though it's the same machine.

I'd imagine the drivers are quite proprietary as well. Dell loves to do things like that.

Not sure about the A920, but I've had some luck with the Dell 1600N (copier/scanner/printer). What made it work was by using the Generic PostScript printer driver, though.

From what I've managed to find, try using the Lexmark Z600 driver for printing. That's what's used by Linux users as a workaround.
