this might be tought to explain but here I go..
I've got some mpeg's (trailers) that are about 60 megs. when I open the file and play it, it is only about 15 seconds (much too short for a 60 meg file)
when the player get's to the end, I notice that the last frame skips to a differen't part of the movie, if I then take the slider back to the 2 second mark, it will play a second part of the movie, and so on and so on and so on until I get the whole thing.
if I take the slider back to the 1 second mark, it reverts back to the original layer.

it happens in Quicktime 3,4 & 5. and as I recall they have all been .mpg files.
I've looked at the movie properties and don't see anything out of whack there.
I've exported out of QT to .dv format, and played it in Imovie and get the same thing.

have any thoughts? I've got a feeling that is has to do with some type of cross platform bug, but not sure...
Thanks

I'm having the exact same problem myself.

Anyone else have a solution to this?
