I am looking to setup a filemaker server and would love to use a cube. The only thing I am wondering is if the cube would be ok to run 24/7.. does heat buildup need to be considered. Are people running these things all the time without problems?
I am really tight on space, so the cube would fit my needs perfectly.
thx

When I got my first Cube, I left it on for two weeks in summer while on vacation (no a/c, windows closed, temps up to 28 degrees C), as a webcam with motion detection. No problem.

I don't think you have to pay extra attention to cooling in room temperature environment. Just typical server stuff like exchanging the hard disk now and then, and make sure the power brick can "breathe".

Last time I turned mine off was when I left for a few days at Christmas.... it stays on and running 24/7. I never know when I might need to TB2 back to it for something....

I wouldn't hesitate to make an FMP server out of one. Just don't get one of the upgraded Radeon cards which get hotter, you're not going to be taxing the video system anway.

My little Cube has been running 24/7 for nearly a year with the only downtime being for software/hardware upgrades. I have had no problems, even while crunching dnetc nearly the entire time. WooHoo! I love this little machine.
Somewhere out there is my sanity..... but I'm not looking for it!

why get a cube. cant be upgraded that much. get a old G3 or G4 tower. they are more upgradable. and cheaper on ebay n stuff.
with a G4 you can have 2 160 gigers inside it . thatds enuf for a small file sharing comp.
A Apple a day keeps the pcs at bay

I think that CPU temp. is spurious-- it always says exactly that, no matter what. Mine's been on and crunching more or less 24/7 for about a year.

My wife's cube has been on for over a year -- it has been running OS X since November. Of the many Macs we've had over the years, this is our favorite ... small, unobtrusive, reasonably powerful (for its time) and so wonderfully quiet...
