i.e. i have a folder of madonna with filenames like

it is one album, id3 tags have the artist and album info written correctly.

however when i import the folder to itunes, it sorts the tracks randomly, so i have manually edit the tag for each track and set the correct track number.

is there a way for itunes to recognize the track numbers from filenames?

or any other third-party software which will automatically fill the id3 tags with track numbers taking them from filenames?

If you list the playlist by the first column it should list the tracks in the order in which they were added, which, in the case of a drag and drop from the Finder, ought to be the correct order based on file names. Then you can use an Applescript such as Albumize by Doug Adams to fill in the track number info in the ID3 tags.
