Some little bitch stole my car stereo. This is the second time in six months.

The ****ing tweekers and kids that think this kind of action is ok will be getting what they deserve soon enough.

I lightly talked about setting up a sting the last time, now I'm more serious.

To those that I catch, well, I feel sorry for you already.

It's fashionable to bash the President and hate America. So, maybe you are right, they may not really know who he is, they just think he's like Microsoft or something and they hate him cuz that's the thing to do. That and steal all of poor Rumor's stereos.

I am the only one who does it so it wouldn't really be called a fashion that's caught on. And I don't do it as an affectation, so it isn't fashionable in that sense, either.

Try again?

Every Dakar has it's day.

This appears to be yours.

And now I hope that Rumor's pain has worn off a bit so that this comment won't seem too mean spirited:

There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, steal my stereo once, shame on — shame on you. Steal my stereo — you can't get it stolen again. —

Could try a "Redneck Burglar Alarm." It consists of supergluing GEM razor blades to the back of the stereo, so when they reach back there, they get a bit of a surprise.

Sorry to hear of your bad luck. Have you thought about buying an 8-Track player instead? I'm sure it won't get stolen.

As sad as this may sound, I actually think such public humiliation would do wonders for the youth of today, but I'm guessing throwing garbage at a punk wearing an oak ox handle may be considered "torture."

Or perhaps a nice system built out of razor blades?

I feel Rumor's pain... having stuff stolen is no fun. From an economical and emotional perspective. But let's please not go down the "what has happened to the youth of today" road. The Crime Index as reported by the FBI is the same as it was 35 years ago. If patterns continue, small crimes such as burglary will drop to pre-1960 levels.

I know we all like to lament how great everything was when we were kids and now it's all gone to hell... but statistics show it's not as bad as we'd like to think.

I talked to a guy who went to high school in the 70s, and he mentioned how everyone always left their keys in their cars all the time...no need to remove them. Compare that to today when you need an alarm to make sure stuff doesn't get stolen...in the school parking lot. (it happened at my small town high school)

I AM a guy that went to school in the 70s and if I left my keys in my car it would have been gone when I got back. There are a zillion anecdotal stories out there...any of which can "prove" any point you'd like to make. I'll stick with the facts.

Just be careful. Even if they're breaking into your car or even your house, it's still illegal to set up a trap to harm them on purpose.

Although, I think that could depend on the state. I know that's how it is in California, as rediculous as it sounds.

My dad didn't live in a house with locks until he was in his late 20's. Of course, he lived in a little West Texas down and grew up poor with little to steal, but it's still weird to think about. I don't leave anything unlocked, not even my office door. And I work in a church.

Which brings to mind...

One night right after a wedding rehearsal, someone broke into our church and stole $10,000 worth of video and lighting equipment. Who steals from a church?

California...

I still can't believe that they passed something like that. Little Kevin in Home Alone would've been sent off to a juvenile detention center until he was 18.

Entrapment is not as clear cut as you think. What if it was a bunch of stupid kids just passing by... you would try to maim them or scare them into running traffic? You'd just be screwing yourself in the civil suit later on.

Go to the cops and ask them what you should do (surveillance wise) or simply get a removable stereo.

I suggest you spend a few hundred dollars and get a crappy car, and put a crappy stereo in, with a fancy looking faceplate.

Rig the car with high explosives (preferably shaped to reduce collateral damage... the car may be re-usable ).

When they come by and try to break in, push that little red button.

A few hundred dollars for a few worthless lives? Totally worth it, IMO.

They aren't, but they usually go hand in hand.

Sorry to hear about the theft.

I had someone steal a guitar out of my car once. Even broke the window.

Luckily my homeowners insurance covered it.

If I did install an 8-track player, it would be quite humorous for with two possible outcomes;

1) They steal it and have no idea what it is.

2) They attempt to steal it and get arrested for stealing an 8-track player. (Which would follow them forever as stupidity)
