It's ridiculous they didn't catch that glaring mistake, 120 feet long by 11 feet high? That's some crazy aspect ratio.

Registering now. Hopefully they'll score my "Bladder of Steel" achievement MUCH higher than Harmonix did (25 points for 6.5 hours of non-stop rocking?!?).

I found none of this surprising.
With all the talk of Nintendo expanding the video game audience, it should come as little surprise that new data from Nielsen Media Research suggests that Wii fares best with young boys and older women. The metered usage data, which covers last year's all-important fourth quarter (October – December), shows that Nintendo's console does a good job attracting boys age 6-11 and women age 25-34.
Furthermore, usage of the Wii by women over 35 is much higher than with the Xbox 360 and PS3. Wii Fit, Guitar Hero and Rock Band were cited as products that have been particularly enticing for older females. While the Wii has certainly brought in a new audience, the more traditional 18-24 age group (often looked at as the hardcore gamer demographic) has engaged in much less Wii usage – for both genders in this age range.
As for the other consoles, Nielsen found the PS3 to skew the oldest of the three platforms, possibly because of consumer brand loyalty and since Sony dominated the market with the PS One in 1994 and PS2 in 2000. "Gamers who owned one or both of these consoles in their youth may have 'graduated' to the PS3 in their assumed adulthood. For both males and females, the highest usage came from the 18-24 age group," Nielsen noted. Microsoft's Xbox 360, meanwhile, seemed to find the middle ground between Wii and PS3. Among males, the largest percentage of usage was found in the 12-17 age group, older than Wii, but younger than PS3. For females, the 25-34 age group had the highest percentage of usage.
Overall, however, while the Wii was the least used console on average, the Xbox 360 saw males using the Xbox 360 on nearly twice as many days per month as females (10.2 vs. 5.4 in December). On the PS3 and Wii, usage breakdown by gender was much more balanced.
"All three of the consoles have their fans, and sales of consoles and games have been some of the few bright spots in an otherwise bleak retail environment," said Bradley Raczka, Marketing Manager for Nielsen Games. "It will be interesting to watch the continued migration to the current generation consoles in 2009, and see how releases of titles such as Halo Wars, Resident Evil 5, MadWorld, Killzone 2 and Street Fighter IV impact usage trends in the first half of the year."

Man, Live has really arrived.
Are Xbox Live users taking out contracts against their opponents? Microsoft is investigating a rash of attacks on Xbox Live users by hackers using data flooding tools to kick them offline.

You could compromise and cut those numbers to 1/5 of their actual sales. Wii Play is $50, but only $10 of it (1/5) is paying for the game itself. The rest is paying for the bundled controller.
It'd be unfair to exclude Mario Kart Wii. The wheel that comes with it is technically a hardware bundle, but it's just a nice perk. People buy Mario Kart for the game.

If StarCraft II would have released in a single bundle, I'd have considered that. But with sales divided in three, no way.
Wait, The Sims 3 comes out this year, right? Oh God... Do we not have a winner?

I don't think Sims 3 has a chance, although I do think Starcraft II could give Punch Out a run for the money.

I've never played Punch-Out, is it really such a huge game ? I'd never even heard of this franchise before Nintendo announced the sequel. I watched a couple of videos on YouTube and i wasnt really impressed.

I wasn't thinking about overall VG sales, just console ones.
But yeah I imagine SC II could do some serious damage.

It's a souped up version of the boxing game in Wii Sports. That alone is enough to sell millions...

In my view, it's a probably the lone Nintendo franchise that everyone is nostalgic about that hasn't seen a sequel in 15 years. It's practically fresh.

I'd suggest making a PC thread, but I'd be giggling evilly if after a month you were the only 10 posts.
Edit: This isn't the Wii, PS3, or 360 forum, just the Wii, PS3, or 360 thread.

You're right. Even more specifically, this isn't the Wii, PS3, or 360 thread, it's the PS3, Wii, or XB360 thread. Yeah, I can do it too.

I'm on my 3rd Xbox, and on my Fourteenth game. Hows all those tired Wii titles treating ya? Just in the last week I've probably played Fallout 3 more than the combined usage of the Wii for all my Wii using friends in the last 5 months.
Just like when the G4 was stuck at 500mhz and and I still stood by the Mac, you know why? Amazing software.
You know why I still stand by the 360? Amazing software. In the end that's why we buy a game system to begin with.
Also, Xbox Live, DLC and a hard drive. I'm sure I'd like the PS3 too, but it just doesn't have any franchises I really care about except Grand Turismo, and that probably is going to be delayed till 2010 anyways.

Had a Wii. After a couple of months, the novelty wore off. Sold it. Now I have a 360. I used to have an xBox, and loved Live. I think I am going to be happy for quite a while. There are tons of great games out there.

MadWorld Nintendo Wii Video - Jack. Just Jack.
Most awesome ! This game just oozes style imo. the graphics, music, premise, humor, violence(surprisingly), enemies, mini games("man darts", "human tempura", "death press", etc).... are just plain cool.
Cheers

I've never even heard of Punchout or that blob game before.
That blob game looks like it jumped out of Studio Ghibli, which is awesome imo.I'm pretty glad the Wii is getting games with such a wide variety of stylistic visual representations (although it still skews to the younger demographic).

Online Gaming Jumps in 2009
The console leader for online gaming is, not surprisingly, the Xbox 360 which dominates the survey with 50 percent. I was more than a little surprised to see that the survey shows that Nintendo's Wii, and not the Playstation 3, is in second place with an amazing 29 percent. The PS3 rounds out the group in third place.
Kinda surprising to see the Wii hit second, even considering their pure numbers over the PS3 owners. But, if this forum is any indication, the PS3 owners are the least vocal of the three systems, and the least social.

Agreed, it is quite the pain to play a Wii game online with friends. Random matches are okay, but playing with friends requires a bit of an effort.

I wonder what percentage of MacNN's readership who own 360s have had their console die on them. i'll leave it up to you guys to start a poll on the issue.... i'd peg it at 20%-33%.

Well, in Japan the 360 is the niche hardcore RPG machine. So it's probably only owned by gaming fanboys who would rate it highly. It's not that weird. It's just a skewed statistic because the sample size is so small.
The last few months saw several "mature" titles finally hit the Wii and they all sold terribly. Not a good sign.
House of the Dead = 45,000
Madworld = 57,000
Deadly Creatures = 15,000
Dead Rising Wii = 15,000
For a comparison, Mario Kart DS sold more then all of these put together (145k) and is about 3.5 years old.
People keep saying that if developers made hardcore Wii games they would sell, but it doesn't seem to be true.

Not only that, but apparently Madworld would have to sell 2-3 million copies to make a "sizable" profit:
http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/23/wa...-to-sell-2-3m/
He has some other things to say about Wii development (mostly criticisms of cross-platform issues) that are sure to make the Nintendo fanboys a bit upset.
