I was just nosing around on their superfan contest page and noticed a wee little button for new signups that indicated they were doing a contest and giving away $1000 a week in October. I went to their regular homepage to investigate but it appears the only way you can signup and get entered is via the contest page (I've included a link). Existing members can't enter unfortunately. It's just for new members and apparently only those who actually do so from this page. Interesting...

Anyway, I thought it was worth mentioning in case anyone was thinking about signing up. Given the economy I'd figure a lot of people might be giving it some thought. Wouldn't hurt to get an extra grand for the effort.

Dude. I was just thinking about putting my porn-by-mail subscription on hold to try out Gamefly. (Really wishing I lived in Britain, where there's apparently a company that rents porn, games, and regular movies all in the same queue.) Suppose this makes it as good a time as any to try. Especially with all the seemingly good PS3 games coming out late Oct/early Nov. Might want to try a few out before buying.

Do they get the new hotness in quickly and in volume?

We have Gamefly and the service is great. They usually have an abundance of new titles when they come out.

Heh, I had to check your post history because this really sounded like spam to me.. More on topic, I randomly like playing games I haven't played for a while so this service, as well as traditional rentals, have never worked for me. I'm also too forgetful/lazy to mail things in so when I tried Blockbuster for movies I didn't really get my money's worth.

Is there really such a thing (the Britain company)? I've never heard of it. I know historically that business model here in the states has fallen on its face. I forget which company tried it but it failed miserably. It's pretty much Netflix for movies and Gamefly for games. As for the adult stuff... well... it has yet to find its niche in this format.

At any rate... to answer your question about Gamefly... yes, they are great at getting the new stuff. Dead Space shipped to me day of release, as have the last four or so new releases I've put in my game queue. GTA4 actually shipped a day ahead of release. I realize that was a while ago but thought it was noteworthy all the same.

I personally haven't ever seen the logic in owning a ton of games. I'm not into clutter and rare is the game I find compelling enough to keep in my arsenal. Not to say I don't have a few, just that the large majority are fine as rentals. Anyway, I think this contest deal I uncovered only runs through the end of this month so if you're going to try it out you might as well go for it now while there's a shot at some extra cash.

I can see that... ultimately just thought people might be interested. I'm a fan of the service myself and digging around I happened to unearth this contest deal so I figured I'd share it in case anyone was going to sign up. I haven't seen any promotional stuff about it which I thought was kind of weird. I guess I felt like I'd stumbled upon a little secret.

So do you just buy all of your games? I feel like everyone uses Netflix for movies these days. Do you not use them either?

Yep, I buy all my games and almost all my movies, but once in a while I'll rent one from the local store. I download demos on PSN excessively if I am even remotely interested in the game, so I only buy games I know I will enjoy or that I have demoed already.
