While spending a few days at my grandmothers' house recently, I decided to watch a VHS cassette of some TV shows from my youth.

It'd been about 8 years since I had last used a VCR.

It was a weird experience, having gotten use to using DVDs, iTunes, and Hulu since.

Does anyone here still use one on a regular basis?
What, me worry?

Every other month or so we watch a VHS video during our monthly staff meetings in our organization.

When I first started working in advertising one of the status items that you had to have to tell the world that you were a pro was your reel on a digi-beta tape. Of course, every time you went and showed your work you hoped like hell that the agency had the actual hardware to play it.

Thus I always had a VHS backup and then, as soon as they became available, CDs.

I use one every week for automatically taping a program when I'm away. It's cheap & easy.

About a year ago. I had my old 8mm stop-motion film transferred and I had to pull it into my Mac. Before, that, years. I bought an S-VHS VCR about that time because I do have some old stuff that needs to be pulled in which isn't available on DVD.

There is a VCR built into our bedroom TV that we occasionally use to play some old kids movies for the kiddies.

Other then that, nope. MY VCR has been in the closet for about 5 years. I've had to dig it out once or twice to play something on the big TV, but that's it.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

We haven't played a VHS tape in years. Our VCR was basically just a second tuner. But now that we've ditched the cable and there are no longer any Analog TV broadcasts, it now just provides more analog video inputs for our (Standard-Def) TV. (That's what the Wii is plugged into.)

We use them at work, but mostly for videos that aren't on DVD (and never will be.) Various educational videos by companies that have gone out of business.

I haven't owned one since 1999 but I had to use one this summer to watch Die Hard 3 when I was at a cottage. Damn I hate those things. It took about 10-15 min to rewind the tape!

Haven't used one in over 10 years and will never use one again. Got rid of every VHS tape I owned and we transferred my wife's VHS home movies from her childhood to DVDs.

Still have a bunch of VHS tapes. Used to use the VCR daily, have now gone to a DVR, but just put a tape in the old VCR/CVD combo unit this past weekend.
Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Yonkers can have better TV reception.

Until they stop charging for DVR service I'm going to keep using my VCR to do programmed recording when I'm not at home. Hulu and other internet video services don't have all the shows that I want or they show the latest episodes several days after they have aired on tv. There's also no "Hulu" for sports. I don't want to just catch the highlights but rather the full game.

I've been meaning to get a DVD recorder but it's always the last priority on the list of things I need to get. The VCR works well so I haven't been in a rush to upgrade. So to answer your question I use the VCR fairly often.

Last week or so. WInnie the pooh and the honey tree, which we have on VHS only. However it looks pretty crappy on our HD tv.

We will keep our vcr til we tire of all the VHS movies we have or upgrade them.

Rewinding/skipping the previews is a PITA though.

Daily. I'm currently transferring a couple thousand VHS tapes into 264. I might be done by mid 2011.

My new car has a standard CD changer. All of the CDs in my old car were mp3 CDs I'd made in iTunes. So new I'm rediscovering my old music since I haven't bought any CDs since I discovered Pandora a couple years ago.

I put my VCR in my basement over a year ago after realizing I hadn't used it for a few years before that.

i use one daily...

i have an old tv "mounted" on my elliptical machine and it only has a coax input. so, i use a dvd/vcr combo unit that happens to allow for DVD output via coax. win win!

last time i used the vcr side of the unit was probably 2 years ago; transferring some old tape onto a computer for processing/cleaning up/making menus/etc for dvds.

Skipping through previews on DVD and Blu-ray is still a pain in the ass. Seriously... Anyone who puts unskipable trailers on a DVD needs to be taken away to a special camp and have unspeakable things done to their genitals.

Just rip the buggers and strip the crap. If someone expects me to sit through five minutes of anti-piracy guff and trailers on a DVD I've bought, then it's fair game to rip and strip as far as I'm concerned. I wouldn't put a CD out and expect you to listen to previews for another album/artist before you get to the content.

on the PS3; simply hit next chapter 1x or 2x; goes right to the main menu or simply hit top menu if the next chapter didn't work. how is that a pain in the ass? works on all my blu-rays. i've never sat through ANY trailers on any of my 180+ blu-rays. 1 or 2 button presses at the most and right on to the movie.

We use one every day or two. We have three young kids, and we have many Disney and other kids movies on VHS that work just fine.

LOL. You got my vote for that. No intro should be unskippable because when I buy a movie it's a safe assumption that I will rewatch the video several times. I can make my own personal copy but I don't want to do that for every video I own nor do I want to take the time to do that.

It's funny because the movie industry is trying hard to prevent people from copy their movies but when they do these things they are forcing their customers to make their own copies just to get rid of this issue.

Yes, it was Phase 2 of my Grand Master Plan. Phase 3 is well underway and should be done by April, at which point Phase 4 will commence.

Does Phase 4 end in 2012 with the rest of the world?

It certainly can't end in 2013 like phases five, nine, and ten now can it?
