Couple questions:
1. Do they come in the pretty normal Apple box?
2. Was there any visual evidence indicating that it was not brand new?

Some answers:

1. No, my refurbished Dual 2.0 G5 came in a brown box (with the old Apple Garamond font) that said "Reconditioned Product" on it.

2. Depends. Mine didn't have any visible evidence, but a friend of mine got a refurbished G5 that had a tiny dent on one of the handles on the bottom, in the back.

I'll be glad to answer any other questions you have

My mom snagged up a refurbished eMac last month. It actually came in the normal/pretty box, but it had a big ole' 'Reconditioned Product' sticker on it. And it did have quite a few hairline scratches, but that didn't bother me and my mom didn't even notice them.

I also bought a refurbished iBook from MacWarehouse a few years back. It came in the standard box and seemed totally brand new.

My original 5 GB iPod was a refurb. Came in a new box with new, sealed earbuds, etc. It was not labeled refurbished.

Its physical and operating condition? Perfect. Just sold it for a tidy sum, too, because I had that original box handy.

My refurb G5 1.8G was packed in a brown box with printed Apple logo and the word reconditioned product. As for the computer, I would have believed it is new if someone tells me so.

The second iPod I bought was reconditioned but came in a standard
as new box and in fact never said anything about it being a product
that was reconditioned. So it may very well have been new and sold
at the refurb price by mistake. Hard to say.

My wife just bought me a refurbed Dual 1.8 G5, as a present for no reason!

1) Came in a brown box marked refurbished

2) Has tiny scratch on one side, which will face against the wall, no problem.

3) Had problems on arrival -- logic board fan nose.

4) Sales people were excellent. My wife has no idea about computers, much less purchasing hardware, and they were very very patient, helpful, and did not try to sell her more than she asked for.

I just bought a refurb. Powerbook. It shipped in a "New" product box, and I could find absolutely no flaws with the machine. There has been some speculation that Apple was moving excess new inventory on these by moving them from the "Refurbished" page, as several other people in the Powerbook forum mentioned theirs arriving in "new" condition as well.
