Tail ejection means he/she was scared. It's a self defence mechanism. Take good care of the little critter.

cool - there has to be some reptile/lizards for pets kind of website out there that you could post on and find a good home for him.

we get heaps of these (we call "drop-tail") lizards in southern australia, but I thought they were only native to australia - apparently not!

Nice looking lizard, poor thing that she/he lost its tail. Hopefully you will find a good home. Also would make you a great pet.

You see those in pet stores all the time. I think they make OK pets, perhaps not cuddly and interactive, but cute to look at.

How about you set him free instead. And let him live out his brief existence in the wilderness naked and free.

Yeah, it's a gekko of sorts. Probably a leopard gekko, since they're very popular pets (can't climb tank glass walls), but it may just be a close relative. Not important.

As others have said, he'll need a nice little environment in order to survive. He'll also need to be fed regularly, and may not make it through winter with the loss of his tail.

While the tail does grow back, it does not regain it's previous functional capacity. Before losing it, the tail would have served as a fat storage device. Loosing it either by injury or panic (voluntarily) is quite an expensive measure... it will grow back but won't act as fat storage any longer.

They're cool pets. We get lots of them in our semi-arid zone.
