Today marks the release of Kylie Minogue's return to the music world after battling breast cancer with her tenth studio album, X. But, instead of a big celebration and advertising, all the iTMS has is shoving its rapcrap/grunge/hip-hop crud instead of celebrating Kylie's grand return to the music world. I swear, the American iTMS is so moronic, it's pathetic!

In unrelated news Apple released the music of Five Iron Frenzy an Old Christian ska band from the mid 90s, they had a strong push for social justice and very interesting lyrics... never got massive appeal but they have a cult like fan base.

I friend at church recommended them to me once. I agree the lyrics are interesting, but I never could get into ska.

Their last three full albums were quite good, and their early stuff had some real gems. You just gotta be willing to put up with some weird ska stuff... which I happen to like a lot.

Won't recommendation engines pick up on that automatically? I mean, you don't have to classify artists by ass type, but just notice that people who like one artists tend to like another - the computer doesn't have to work out the reasons, just notice the connection, or do I misunderstand how the thing works?

You know, it's quite sad and a poor reflection on you that all you can do is turn Kylie into some fodder for your pornographic lusts. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Oh, come on. I didn't complain when the US iTunes Store failed to correctly recognize Cocco's first CD after six years retirement. You didn't either. It was actually quite reasonable because nobody in the US knows or cares who the **** Cocco is.

You don't seriously believe that it's the music that's sold her albums over the past twenty years, do you?

WTF?

Another Kylie Minogue-Apple-bashing thread from gulmatan?

Seriously, have you absolutely no life? You post here about once a year, and every single time, you create a thread that bashes Apple and is somehow about how talented Kylie Minogue is (unlike those ‘others’—who was it, Kelly Clarkson?—that you claim are conversely talentless hacks).

I really can’t figure out whether gulmatan is a carefully plotted joke account made by a regular, or an actual (somewhat deranged) individual.

Frankly, I've followed her career since 1987. From her Stock/Aitken/Waterman days to her move to DeConstruction Records in 1994 to her Parlophone era and now, for her return to the music world. This woman has seen success in every part of the globe. Her music is phenomenal. She's been gifted with a voice that is smooth, graceful, fun and a joy to hear. Also, her songwriting teams from Stock/Aitken/Waterman to Rob Davis, Cathy Dennis, Richard Stannard to her management teams speaks to how and why she's been so successful and talented.

Oh, on another note, I've posted here on quite a number of topics including MS Word, AppleScript, iPod/iTunes as well as various OS/X questions as well.

Furthermore:

That's my whole point! The US is so lame and preoccupied with rap/hiphop/grunge and American Idol that both the US and the iTMS have completely ignored her and this release that, after four-and-a-half months, the US and iTMS FINALLY decided to pay attention whereas, the rest of the world got the hint alot earlier!

As for her career, yes, I know her musical history quite well. But, fondness and a well-versed knowledge of her music and talent, doesn't qualify as obsessed. I happen to follow music from various artists and genres--80s New Wave, Top 40, and Dance/Club genres. I am also quite fond of R&B/Soul, Contemporary and Smooth Jazz. So, your conclusion that I am obsessed with a certain artist is quite unfounded.

I have to agree with you here, pop music in the US is utter ****. Thanks to MTV and the majority of moronic teens who watch it.

Well it's not that music in the US sucks, it is, as you say, that MTV and the mass media music channels suck. We just need to get away from the idea of massive popularity, and get back to the idea that local areas / interests / etc can have their own music sub-cultures. We don't need mega-stars and pop idols to have a vibrant music scene.

Absolutely, when I talk to or observe teens today I pray that I was never as devoid of individuality and personal opinion as most of them seem to be today regarding many things; not the least of which is musical taste.

The world would be a better place if MTV were a premium/pay channel.

What does MTV have to do with anything? They stopped playing music videos about ten years ago! Which is to say, zapping through the channels, which is the only time I ever encounter MTV, I have only ever found a single "show" that plays music videos - and that's on like once a month (or week?) for an hour, and plays about eight of the newest mainstream music videos. Everything else I come across is stupid spring-break-TV/pimp-my-whatever/OMFG-it's-Paris-Hilton-get-her-the-****-out-of-my-living-room! shows.
If this isn't accurate, feel free to correct me.

How is your point that an album that was released four months and four days ago has been pretty much ignored by a certain market, represented by your initial post, which states

"Today" marks the grand return of four months ago, and, um. Oh.

No.

"Today" (as in "yesterday") marks gulmatan's grand return to MacNN Lounge Stardom.

And you didn't even have to lose a tit to get there!

How does today mark her return when the album's been out since November? And didn't she have an album out around 4 years ago AFTER she battled breast cancer?

First off, she's a good singer, but the songs suck. I don't know if she writes them or if someone else does, but they're not that good. And no, I don't like hip-hop/grunge/whatever. Also, isn't she more popular in other parts of the world?

This thread is an epic failure.

The best songs she’s ever made were the 1994 ones. Those were actually good songs, rather than just catchy easy-listening, in-one-ear-out-the-other tunes.

This thread is an epic failure.
Well, it is a gulmatan thread, after all.

Welcome to 2005. All those types of music have been declining in popularity in the United States for years. American Idol is the only the only one you listed that remains mainstream, but it is not the phenomenon that it used to be.

Seriously, grunge? That's been dead for more than a decade.

if you don't know who The Meatmen are...
