How can I get Magic Menu back into the menu bar? Or do I need it at all? For some reason Stuffit Deluxe is opening on the desktop. It usually doesn't open, just decompresses the file while it stays hidden. Did Iclick a button somewhere?

there should be a magicmenu.menu item in your startup items (system preferences->accounts->startup items)
FYI, that item should be in the main Stuffit folder in your applications or utilities (or wherever you installed it) folder.

if it aint' broke, break it.

There is a MagicMenu in my Stuffit folder, which I have tried to place in the Startup Items in System Prefs/Accounts. It doesn't show up. I have set all the prefs to open correctly, so everything is working smoothly now. What is magicmenu.menu? I couldn't find that anywhere.

.menu is just the suffix of the file. you may have that turned off in your (finder->preferences ->advanced) preferences. so, i'll guess that the magicmenu file you have IS the magicmenu.menu file. you may want to adjust your preferences though so you can verify that fact.
FYI, the .menu suffix is the standard osx file type of processes that run from the menubar.
the other thing: what do you mean 'you tried and it doesnt show up'?
does that mean:
a) you can successfully put the .menu item in the startup items but it has no effect--i.e. the menu item does not show up in the menubar after you restart
or
b) you cant even get the .menu item to show up in the startup items
that's two very different problems.
by the way, the startup items folder doesnt do anything special to an application or process other than run it. you should be able to just double-click your magicmenu.menu item and launch the process...it should show up in the menubar--provided you have enough room up there to show it.

I can't double click and have it show up in the Menu Bar.
It is in the Startup Items in System Preferences/Accounts/Startup Items.
I do have 'Show all file extensions' clicked in Finder/Preferences/Advanced.
I really don't care anymore, as I have 'Get Info'ed' every possible extension that I could think of, and everything is operating well. Thanks for your help.
