thanks for all the congrats guys!

;-)

it was funny, cause my agent told me that the 6 who got an interview, and the 3 that made it to second interview stage..(myself included in that 3), i only bet the other two people soooo narrowly, by my design skills.

i had to produce a website design for a christmas landing page on a online shop. I've NEVER designed any consumer websites before! especiially not ones targetted at middle aged women! i mainly do corporate b2b sites that look nothing more than glorified excel spreadsheets.

so i was very surprised to have won it through my design skills! and not say my experience, or my technical knowledge, or even my fantastic people skills / personality / looks / charm!

;-)

haha

anyway thanks for the "well dones"

Way to go, Man! You deserve it.

To help you make a smooth transition, I thought you might use these tips to integrate into the new workplace:
  • Page yourself over the intercom. Don't disguise your voice.
  • Find out where your boss shops and buy exactly the same outfits. Always wear them one day after your boss does. This is especially effective if your boss is the opposite gender.
  • Send e-mail to the rest of the company to tell them what you're doing. For example: "If anyone needs me, I'll be in the bathroom."
  • Put mosquito netting around your cubicle.
  • Insist that your e-mail address be: [email protected]
  • Every time someone asks you to do something, ask if they want fries with that.
  • Put your garbage can on your desk and label it "IN."
  • Put decaf in the coffee-maker for 3 weeks. Once everyone has gotten over their caffeine addictions, switch to espresso.
  • When driving colleagues around, insist on keeping your car's windshield wipers running during all weather conditions to keep 'em tuned up.
  • Reply to everything someone says with, "That's what you think."
  • Highlight irrelevant information in scientific papers, then cc them to your boss.
  • Finish all your sales projections with "in accordance with prophecy."
  • Dont use any punctuation
  • As often as possible, skip rather than walk.
  • Ask people what sex they are.
  • At lunch time, sit in your parked car and point a hair dryer at passing cars to see if they slow down.
  • Holler random numbers while someone is counting.

Hope this helps.

To dislike Sinatra is a sign of highly questionable taste. To dislike the Beatles is a serious character flaw.

Yeah, I think I agree with you. Is the colour off a bit? Although you've probably got it looking spiffy by now.

Oh, just thought of something. Some of these icons could make cool avatars/user icons - any chance of including the graphic files with the set so we can use them for this?

Okay, finally have done an icon that doesn't completely suck! (i've had a lot of troubles with a lot of my recent ones i've been working on, and it's kinda depressed me somewhat)

oh, and an update on the starchild

(still not too sure about this icon.. i'm not that good at drawing people/babies etc.

I wasn't planning on released graphic files, such as png's or what have you. As if you want to you can easily create these yourself from the icons.

The helmet is still at the current stage. I'm really not to sure about it. It think it's probably okay. hehe (i'm so damn lazy.)

Progress! ;-)

hehe, i haven't been completely lazy this week. One thing though, i will not forget about this project or just choose not to release it. this isn't a vaporware project or anything. hehe. I'm just slow, cause i have lots of other obligations, and also i'm very lazy. ;-)

heres a couple:

The following one is odd i think. But it actually looks cool on my desktop so i thought i'd include it. Basically there is a huge amount of computer screens in the movie, and i couldn't figure out a way to illustrate these. essentially they're all flat images inside a huge big computer. Now i couldn't illustrate the computer, cause most of the time they take up the whole room. So i've opted for just displaying the screen content. with a nice wee glow around the edges. :-)

this was seen in the POD that Dave Bowman drives out when he's trying to rescue Frank. it says "DMG" on it in big letters, which kinda of reminded me of OMG! (which is a phrase i use a lot actually, so i had to do this one!)

The second icon i'm showing here is the key that Dave uses to unlock the door to the HALs brain. the "Memory Logic Centre" i believe it's called. I wasn't really sure if this item was suitable just on it's own, it's been begging me to be added on top of something else. but i couldn't figure out what would work well. and besides i've drawn it now, and i can't be arsed redrawing it from another angle :-)

I believe i'm currently at the 16 Icon mark. Theres a few more icons i'm gonna attempt to do. there will be a lot that i've not done, or have chosen not to do which might upset some people. But this project has taken long enough as it is, and i would like to move on to other things. :-)

stay tuned!

Mostly it's the vehicles. for one thing they require a lot of detail, but the second problem is they're so big and as such i cannot draw them in a correct or decent perspective.

I've tried a few of them and haven't been too successful, but i will keep at it for the future. but i'm not gonna hold back this set because i feel i have to do the vehicles.

Looking sweet Zyote. Take your time, it will clearly be worth it. DMG also means disk image of course, which got me thinking you could have several of those screens to represent files, e.g. 'TXT', 'JPG', 'DOC', 'MOV' - why there's dozens.
I know you didn't want to do a full system set but it just seems too perfect to me (that Key could be customise toolbar, for example).

If I hadn't seen the movie, I'd have thought that the key was a vacuum cleaner attachment.

Good work as always, Zyote. I still can't believe this just your 2nd movie set

Perhaps you could release those icons you're happy with Zyote, as a version 1 set. And then release the rest as version 2, that way we can start using them. Good idea?

Hi!

Right.. time for the update.

I'm almost done. i'm gonna release this weekend.. sometime before next monday. ;-)

as a way to perhaps push me to do more final touches and such. i'm gonna release the psd of the spacepod betty. basically to show all of you my methods (or lack of) for creating this icon. the psd is the normal size i work at 512x512. it has all the layers and everything!

I realise you could go and produce the icon from this psd, but i'm hoping that you wont, and will wait for the final final version ;-) and just get a bit of insight from viewing the psd instead! ;-)

Right.. heres the link:

(right click-download / option click etc..)
http://www.zyotism.com/aesthetics/20...tism-Betty.psd

Cheers
-Check again after the weekend for the full set!

Do you have problem with scaling down from 512x512? I have problems when shrinking from a higher resolution. Thanks for the psd btw.

scaling down from 512x512 is fine. I'm pretty sloppy when it comes to reworking smaller versions, which is actually something i really really need to work on.

I can kind of figure out the amount of detail i should put in at 512x512 so that it translates to 128 appropriately.

I normally work with two copies of the psd open. i keep one at 25% size (aprox 128x128), and the other zooms in to whatever i need. it's a good way for me to see the a rough idea of the 128x size while being able to control the mouse when really zoomed in.
