Hello all,

I am taking a new job and unlike my last job, they don't use Macs.

I am pretty familiar with XP, but I am so used to expose and being able to create PDFs from anything, I feel my productivity will decrease dramatically.

If anyone has any pointers to make life easier in Windows, I would be grateful. The free-er the suggestions, the better.

Thanks in advance.

CutePDF is a free PDF "printer" for Windows. You can give that a try.

is "use Adobe" too dumb of a suggestion?

Also, did you really need the job THAT badly?

Just get promoted until you are the CEO. Then issue a mandate that the entire corporation switch to Macs. Oh, and to win your employee's favor, give them a personal Mac to use at home so they can be more productive when not in the office.

Yes, and the first thing I'll do is to mandate a 20 hour work week. Plus, employees can work from anyplace they have an internet connection.

Oh, and free pizza and beer on every day ending in "y".

So, to answer the original poster's question: I'd sign up for Fred Langa's e-mail newsletter. He has some nice tips about using Windows that I find handy. They are generally not too technical, so if you are an advanced user you might not want to sign up. They are at: www.langa.com

How do you expect us to give advice without giving us any basic information ?

What kind of job, what industry, what products, what work do you do ?

get the latest adware and viruses and load 'em up on the servers at work. Push the point that the wasted time doing the adware/virus/service pack stuff could be better used if MAC's were there.

The work is real simple. Its going to involve lots of web browsing and word/excel stuff.

Its a part time thing while i am in grad school. Its with Rice.edu and you would think they would use macs, but not this dept.

Thanks again.

I'm thinking of leaving my current job to take one that might allow me to work with Macs. I'm tired of hearing the anti-Mac squabble from our IT guy every day.

Sorry I don't have anything to recommend. Whenever I've had to create a PDF I pull out the thumb drive and my Mac Book.
