I dunno... haven't they only released two developer seeds? Don't they usually do more before release?

Steve just called me (again) and said that 10.3.5 won't be coming out today. Or tomorrow.

I hope 3.5 comes out soon, .4 has a ton of little things that make my apps less stable and junk. Less than enjoyable. I'm sometimes tempted to go back to X.3 but there's no easy way to get back.

A ton of little things? What might they be? So far, 10.3.4 has been great for me. Oh wait, I have been running 10.3.5 for almost a month now.
I hope it fixes your problems, when it does come out which should be RSN.

Okay, well I just installed 10.3.5; however, it had some really weird bugs going on in it...however, there was some really cool stuff as well. Like this new "Search" feature up in the top-right menu bar, and these really neat little widget thingee-ma-gigs that work off of Expos I believe. The kicker is, I noticed in the "About this Mac" box that it stated it was 10.4...so what did I do? I submitted some bug reports to Apple that they had a typo and it should be 10.3.5 instead. It'll be delayed now because of my findings for another 2-3 weeks...

Sorry!

You know, just... things. Items, and such. Various and sundry things and stuff. Mainly the stuff, though.

Neither my work computer nor my iBook will sleep. I have reinstalled OS X and upgraded to 10.3.4. I have a strong feeling that the lack of sleep is due to the update and hope they fix it with 10.3.5. That is why it matters to me.

When you say they won't sleep, do you mean even if you tell it to sleep manually?

It will sleep if I select sleep from the Apple menu or if I close it. It will not sleep on its own using the settings in the energy saver pane. If I forget to close my iBook, it won't sleep. Same with my G4 tower at work.

I tried reinstalling the OS X, but I made the mistake of updating immediately to 10.3.4. I have heard from folks who have updated to 10.3.3 that the issue disappears. The strange thing is there is a thread on Macfixit indicating that it is not entirely related to 10.3.4--there are folks experiencing the same issue running Jaguar. Strange indeed.

As far as I can tell, it is tied to a process. The thing is my computers are running the same things they were running under older versions of 10.3 and I had no problems then. It seems that maybe 10.3.4 is a bit more finicky when it comes to sleeping with processes running.

Any ideas? Sorry if this is too off topic.

Try these energy saver settings ..
Preferences/Energy Saver
"Put the computer to sleep when it is inactive for" .. at Never
Check "Put the hard disk to sleep when possible".

Delete Power Management Prefs
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist.

Fax Setting Disturbing Sleep
The solution is to open the Print & Fax pane of System Preferences and uncheck the "receive faxes on this computer" box. Having fax reception enabled prevents your Macinosh from going into sleep mode normally.

Yeah, I have done all of these things in the past--no luck. I just tried again for the heck of it. Nothing. I even created a new user account and logged in as the new user. No sleep. Thanks for the suggestions.

Ok guys, lets think of this logically...

- We know through reports that the new 2.5 G5's will be running 10.3.5.

- They will be shipping in August.

- 10.3.5 has to be done, and imaged on Hard Drives. Then the drives have to be installed in every 2.5 G5.

- 2 weeks sounds about right for production and installation of drives.

- August is a few days away. If it takes 2 weeks to produce and install the drives with 10.3.5 on them, that gives us until the second week of August for it to be released.

You're almost certainly correct that this is due to a rogue process. I had a similar problem with the auto-update process from the Office 2004 demo. Once I killed it, my iBook would happily sleep once more.

Have you verified the problem on a stock 10.3.4 with no other apps installed?

Yes. I reinstalled OS X last week. Immediately updated to 10.3.4 and my iBook won't sleep. Hopefully 10.3.5 will fix the problem...

There are performance issues with the 10.3.4 GeForce FX Go5200 drivers. GeForce FX Go5200 exists in the PB 12" rev C. I've downgradet to 10.3.3 because of this, so the 10.3.5 will probably be a welcome upgrade for many. I hear it's supposed to have som OpenGL/NVedia drivers improvments, or something..

Because it ships on the G5 doesn't mean it will be released... sometimes systems come with different builds of the same number (like 10.3.5).

10.2.7 is a case in point. That shipped on the first batch of G5s while the rest of us went from 10.2.6 to 10.2.8, if I recall correctly.

Well then why would they be releasing developer previews? They've already released the list of fixes for it.
