I am thinking about buying a Mac mini but I do not want to put too much money into it, at least for now. I currently use a Dell Inspiron 9100 and I was wondering if I could use the laptop as a display?

only if your laptop has a DVI/VGA input. There's a very slim chance that it does.

Your better off just picking up a cheap $20 monitor at your local used computer place.
