He is clearly representing his constituents though!
This little gem would definitely come under fire in OKC or Tulsa, but down there is a different story. That is deep F150 and Silverado country down there and trash talkin' the President of Merkuh is fightin' words. Pretty funny considering the only 2 things to do around those parts is to get your girlfriend pregnant and grow pot.

Oh, comparing people to terrorists is nothing new for Republicans. Just look at what they said about Max Cleland, a Vietnam veteran and triple-amputee.

The people in fly-over country should not even be allowed to vote.

At about the time our original 13 states adopted their
new constitution, in the year 1787, Alexander Tyler (a
Scottish history professor at The
University of Edinborough) had this to say about "The
Fall of The Athenian Republic" some 2,000 years prior.
"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply
cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A
democracy will continue to exist up until the time
that voters discover that they can vote themselves
generous gifts from the public treasury. From that
moment on, the majority always votes for the
candidates who promise the most benefits from the
public treasury, with the result that every democracy
will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy,
(which is) always followed by a dictatorship."
"The average age of the worlds greatest civilizations
from the beginning of history, has been about 200
years. During those 200 years, these nations always
progressed through the following sequence:
From Bondage to spiritual faith;
From spiritual faith to great courage;
From courage to liberty;
From liberty to abundance;
From abundance to complacency;
From complacency to apathy;
From apathy to dependence;
From dependence back into bondage."
Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University Schoolof
Law, St.Paul, Minnesota, points out some interesting
facts concerning the most recent Presidential
election:
Population of counties won by:
Gore=127 million
Bush=143 million
Square miles of land won by:
Gore=580,000
Bush=2,2427,000
States won by:
Gore=19
Bush=29
Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by:
Gore=13.2
Bush=2.1
"In aggregate, the map of the territory Bush won was
mostly the land owned by the tax-paying citizens of
this great country. Gore's territory encompassed those
citizens living in government-owned tenements and
living off government welfare..."
The U.S. is now somewhere between the
"apathy" and "complacency" phase of Professor Tyler's
definition of democracy; with some 40 percent of the
nation's population already having reached the
"governmental dependency" phase.

Being a citizen of Oklahoma City, I find your liberal elitism and generalization of Oklahomans very offensive. Disagree with Tom Cole for legitimate reasons, but don't disparage the whole state of Oklahoma.
Tom Cole's comment was purposefully controversial political speech much like many other risqu quotes by many other political figures. Was it appropriate? That's going to vary depending on whom you ask. In my opinion, the point he was getting across is this: that Osama Bin Laden will have a much easier time going about his business (and we know what his business is) if a liberal is in power in the US than if a conservative is in power. Again, agree or disagree for legitimate reasons, but don't make fun. That won't help your cause at all.

Being a citizen of Tulsa, I find my generalization of Oklahomans quite accurate. Granted, I took the low road with my statement. For that I apologize. Although I do find it interesting how you are offended by my making fun of our beloved state, yet do nothing when people are making fun of Bush and Kerry on the same thread.
But let me get back to why I posted in the first place. He knows his constituency; A large amount of Oklahomans that beat their chests in support of opinions similar to Mr. Cole's. These same people were more than happy to get a tax refund, yet get upset when their social services are cut!

Explain in a sentence what these "facts" are supposed to mean. I can think of two interpretations:
1) Bush really "won" the popular vote (apparently more land voted for him, or something), despite the fact that he technically lost;
2) Bush lost the popular vote, but the people who voted for Gore are degenerates and not real Americans, so Bush really won.

As it should be. Minorities generally have no rights under true democracies. There are no safeguards to protect the rights of the people under a democracy, the will of the majority is what goes, regardless of it's effect on minority groups.

That's because the US isn't a democracy. It's a constitutional republic. And it was designed specifically to ensure that minority groups would have disproportionately large amounts of power. The idea being that just because a certain group only makes up a small portion of the population doesn't mean that they don't deserve to have the same rights as everyone else. Without these safeguards, it probably would have taken even longer than it did for slavery to be abolished in the US.
