For the upcoming 4.7-inch iPhone, Apple has picked a Taiwanese LCD supplier -- Innolux -- over Sharp or Samsung, according to a Taiwanese newspaper, UDN. Innolux is claimed to be Apple's third display provider for the phone after LG Display and Japan Display. Sharp is believed to have been ruled out because of quality problems during test production, while Samsung may have been dismissed simply because of Apple's desire to distance itself from its main rival.

It's still uncertain which firms might be supplying panels for Apple's 5.5-inch iPhone, sometimes nicknamed the iPhone Air. That device has reportedly been delayed, though, such that manufacturing might start months after the 4.7-inch phone is in full-scale production. The delay is allegedly linked to display issues.

I am very glad to see Apple cut Samsung out of the loop. The question is now: "How will Samsung know how big to make their phones?"

Sorry ElectroTech, but where it comes to display size it's Apple doing the monkeying; and not just from dear old Samsung but from everyone else in the phone industry that has been able to follow the needs of users instead of being pigheaded with whatever obsolete choices Steve Jobs made back when VGA on a portable device was considered "high ress"
