I used to hook up my 1 ghz Ti to a 21" FD Trinitron monitor at work and it looked pretty sharp. I just tried the new Al 15" today and it looks very blurry, like a very small ghosting effect. I've adjusted everything on the monitor and no luck fixing it. I'm running 1600x1200 at 85 Hz. It looks a little better at 60 Hz but that won't do. Tried adjusting "font smoothing style" in system preferences too. I can feel the headache coming on... :-)

Anyone have their Al 15 hooked up to a CRT with good or bad results?

Thanks,
Brian

Do you mean the res on the PowerBook or the res on the CRT looks bad? Are you doing monitor spanning or mirroring?

Spanning lets you spread the desktop across two screens.

Mirroring just displays the image on the PB screen onto the CRT.

(I think)

I'm using the CRT as a lone monitor with the powerbook closed. I haven't tried mirroring or spanning yet. I'm going to try it spanned on my 17" LCD tonight at home.

Well, it looks better on my 17" Samsung LCD. It uses an analog input, not DVI. There is a small amount of ghosting but nowhere near what I was getting on the CRT. I'll try a different CRT tomorrow to add to the tests. Any further feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Brian

Tried a 19" FD Trinitron CRT at work and it looked better at 1600X1200 than the 21". It was equivalent to the 17" LCD in quality.

Tried the 21" again with the same poor result. Maybe my 21" has some wierd incompatibility with the analog output from the 9600. I'm really bummed. I need my big screen and a 20" LCD is going to be hard to come by...
