Is it possible to have my user name changed?

I never wanted to be _?_ - the ? is actually omega (option z) which does not display correctly on the boards.

"Omega" in hiding, signing out.....

You can ask one of the admins to chnage it for you. I tried changing mine and I was told that they don't typically do this unless the change is not drastic and/or you don't have too many posts already. When I asked to have it chnaged, I had about 400+ posts and wanted it changed to something like "e." Needless to say, it didn't happen.

I wish you good luck on your attempt.

Since "e" is already taken, how about changing mine to "E_"? Please? Pretty please??

Just start all over. I know you're waiting to get 10,000 posts to retire your current handle, but 6,650 is just as good a number

Hey, maybe I should stop at 6666. That's both demonic and original.

It's an extremely easy thing to do in vBulletin, even without phpMyAdmin installed, but I'm sure that it would be a low-priority matter when the forums have so many active members.

Coincidentally, as mentioned a moment ago on a different thread, I just opted to register a new user name, mostly to gain anonymity. My former user name was my real-life fullname (how nave, right?) rather than an alias. I was sad to lose the record of my history of hundreds of past posts, but I do need to reduce the existing footprints I've left all over the Internet.

Congrats on the new name MacGorrilla

Now, to clarify a few things:

One of the reasons they don't completely change usernames is because it'll confuse the other members, or so I've been told. If it's a relatively small change (removing a braket, for example), then they don't mind at all. On the other hand, I wanted to change soul searching to something like E, but was denied.

On the thread by MacGorilla that got locked in the lounge:

Before he retired, the three of us (gorickey, MacGorilla and myself as soul searching then) talked about retiring our handles after reaching a certain post count. MacGorrilla and I wanted different names, goriky needed a change. For them the changing-handle-post-count was 10K, for me it was 1K. So, yes, gorickey was the first to do it, but it's not like we all copied him just because we did it after.

Just wanted to clarify

And I have asked Demonhood several times over the years for a name change, but to no avail.

It has been done before.

I remember a certain chic[k]en and also a power moderator who have undergone a name change.

And technically I am not changing my name, but just the way it is represented.....

I never expected such hostility my retirement. I've always been supportive of our people and not get that back after all the years I've been here was a let down.

I think it was just bad timing that you would retire your username just shortly after that thread about someone leaving. People seemed to go into a "we don't care" attitude during that thread (myself definitely included but then again, I never cared). So then you said "hey look at me" and everyone was still thinking "hey we don't care."

So that's why you got that reaction and why the thread needed to go.

I think if it were to be done, once a year is a good time.

Maybe make an announcement that some name-changes/tweaks will be done on a certain date if a person has a valid reason. Make the announcement a month from the change date and only allow a user to change their name once and once only.

I'd also suggest that banninated people who return should not be allowed to do this.

Also, I'd suggest people have a certain number of posts, at least 1,000. Otherwise changing of the name isn't going to do much good.

If people aren't jerks about it, it might be an easy enough way to give back to the community, so to speak.

This is a computer-generated message and needs no signature.

I totally blame gorickey for all of this. He is going to get grounded (with no access to ESPN) for this mess!

Sorry, but that user name is already taken. Not sure what happened to him though - a big frenzy of posting for a few months and a thread saying he was retiring.....

Anyway you wouldn't want to have the name - too much baggage - especially badgering the admins for this upgrade.
