I have an Intel iMac 17". I finally got around to installing a printer on it tonight - a Canon IP1700. The install went fine - and then I tried to print a page from a book I'm editing - and the book app crashed. I have not been able to re-launch it. Even re-installing the app (BookSmart) does not resolve it.

So I decided to print a photo from iPhoto. Fails - with a generic error message. Then I tried to print from Photoshop Elements - it failed saying I had insufficient RAM (I have 1Gig).

Then tried to launch OpenOffice to print a text doc - and I cannot launch that app either. It fails with a timeout error of some kind.

I have broken something! Can any of you suggest what happened - and how to resolve this?

Thank you.....!!!

Everyone,

The problem was that my printer driver was down-level. The symptoms this caused were scary and unexpected. But all is well now.

I am posting this here for the benefit of others who might stumble over this like I did.
