Hello,

I would like to request the ability for us to attach music and sound clips to threads that automatically play when you open the thread.

I've always wanted my threads to be accompanied by a big whoosh sound... maybe about 7 seconds long or so.

Same here,

if you didn't mention the 7 second duration, then its conceivable but in light of the other thread about image and the brouhaha that erupted from that its a little too coincidental posting this request

Well, I can possibly shorten my sound clip a little... We could each have our own, it would be cool!

In all seriousness I don't think it would be a good idea. there's a bunch of websites that seem to go overboard with flash, video, sound as it is. I can this easily getting out of hand here, then there's the issues of NSFW, profanity, etc etc.

The first 10 seconds or so of that.

Sounds like someone got kicked in the jewels.

Again, poor idea, sucks up bandwidth, NSFW etc.

Did Sir Isaac Newton think that gravity was impossible after the apple landed on his head?

Who said anything about it being impossible, what I said was it a poor idea and it will suck up bandwidth.

I have a computer at work and during a lull in activity I'll pop over here. The last thing I need is to hear some sort of screaming sound whenever I enter a thread. Likewise if I'm home, I'd rather not want the peace and quiet (or my music playing on itunes) be interrupted by some sound when ever I enter a thread

Then there's the delay and bandwidth problem. Both links (from above posts) caused my computer to pause for a bit to load the file, what about people on dialup the wait would be more painful.

People complain about flash being over used (rightfully so) well I think just because we can doesn't mean we should and attaching an audio file to every thread is in the same vein (will be over used and people will be complaining )

I could crop out the unneeded audio in that file and make it much smaller.

I would like screaming sounds, and I don't mind the extra bandwidth, I'm not paying extra for it. It's worth it for everybody to have their own jingle and/or audio signature. I mean, you're old fashioned Mac guy.. wouldn't you like it if every time somebody opened your thread they heard the original Mac chime and one of the original voices saying "I'm an old Mac. Enjoy this thread!"?

I think that would be awesome, and it would help attract new converts to the Mac. As far as not for safe sounds, at work you could just put headphones on or turn your sound off.

Besides, I have seniority over you here, so I think it is very clear that it would be fair for this to happen. MacNN already closed my Patrick Swayze thread, AND my Steve Guttenberg thread before that. I didn't complain, but in return I would like this trumpet screaming to play each time somebody opens up one of my threads. I don't think this is too much to ask.

Well if we could have the mac startup chime that would be cool, short enough not to chew up bandwidth and people at work will think I'm rebooting a mac (we have both macs and pcs)

The screaming thing that was linked wouldn't fly - that would wake up my twins and my wife would kill me (my home office is next to their bedroom)

Well, you could turn off your sound for my threads... Seems reasonable and doable to me. What do you think?

Many people do, you don't speak for everybody. Just pretend that you were into playing tennis. Are you? Well, if you were, think about how cool it would be if your threads said "your serve, loser" every time somebody opened up one of your threads...

Think about it, and be realistic...

I think you are wrong. Look at some of the most popular sites on the net. Half of them play sounds when the page loads. Like was pointed out myspace and another
