I bought a 1GB module (Samsung factory original) and installed it on the empty slot on my iMac. The thing is that when I turn the computer on, System Profiler won't recognize the new memory, it shows the slot as being empty.
Any ideas ?

Are you sure it's the correct memory type?
Are you sure it's FIRMLY seated in the slot?
Are you sure you didn't walk across carpet with rubber-soled shoes while or just before handling the RAM chips?

Yeah, It's specifications are:
DDR2 | 533 MHz | PC2-4200
Just as stated in my iMac manual. The only thing the manual adds (which I don't understand) is that the module needs to be unbuffered and unregistered. And I'm pretty sure it's firmly seated, I hear the "click" as the rings retreat themselves. As for static charge, I touched the base of the iMac for a couple of seconds (that should do it, right?)
I'll try again tonight and re-post. Thanks both for your help.

Try to push it in at an angle, first on one side a bit, and then on the other.
(If you try to push it in parallel to the slot it might be more difficult, as the slots are pretty tight).
Also: the two rings should go in almost all the way. If you have to press with the ram cover to get them in, the ram isn't seated.

If you've done all the above (and it sounds like you were quite careful), it's not unlikely that your RAM stick is simply broken.
It happens.

Well, that's it.
I tried it all once again and nothing, so I'll get it exchanged for a new one.
Thanks all for your help !
