Hi there...I have a problem and would like some suggestions on what to do.

My external hard drive (Maxtor 300gig firewire connection) keeps on hanging up on my G4 Powermac 1.25ghz, 2 gig ram, running Leopard 10.5.2.

Essentially when I plug the drive in and start it up it shows up on the desktop, but when I click on it to see what's inside, it shows 97 gig available, but that is it.

This started happening when the drive was turned off without being ejected (it got hung up when I tried to move Nikon Capture DX to the drive)...

Now, every time I turn it on, it just hangs there...I can't look in it, and I can't eject it either. In fact the only way I can "turn it off" is by turning off the power. I then get a message that says that the device was not properly turned off and I may have lost data.

I tried to run disc utility on it and that just kept on going, eventually it (disc utility) stopped responding and I had to force quit that.

Any suggestions?

Tom
