My tech installed Lion over my previous OS (not what I want). Does this erase all my files? With Windows you can upgrade keeping all your files, I think.

Look, all the non os files should be there if all he did was upgrade the is. If he formatted or erased the drive maybe not.

Windows upgrades are very inconsistent at keeping files. It depends on what os you're coming from and going to, and whether it is the 32- or 64-bit variant (source and install). OS X upgrades are far simpler. Why Lion? I don't know why anyone would upgrade to that now with Mountain Lion out.

a) some machines don't actually support Mountain Lion.

b) Lion has been out about a year. Most problems have been ironed out.

c) Mountain Lion hasn't. There's still a couple nasty bugbears.
