And as always, everyone fill the first 2 pages of "Downloading now..." replies.

Heh. Just got my old iMac connected via NAT, WiFi and the new iMac as a bridge to run Software Update to grab a decades worth of old updates - and what do I see?

And by popular request...

Downloading now...

14.5 MB of 56.8 MB

J/K!

I hope this resolves the Safari window moving issue I've continued to experience. Will post later.

Disables Quartz 2D Extreme—Quartz 2D Extreme is not a supported feature in Tiger, and re-enabling it may lead to video redraw issues or kernel panics.

WHAT ABOUT IMPROVING FRONT ROW??!

On my dialup connection now so can't check - has anyone here installed front row on their powerbooks etc? Does 10.4.3 make the DVD player work now? And improve itunes stability etc.

Cheers

so you're saying that apple should improve your un-supported 'illegal' front row installation?

go get the version 5, it has the new dvd software in it. (no i don't have it, nor tried it, do not ask me where to get it)

No I'm not saying that apple should improve my unsupported installation. Where in my post did I say that? I was just wondering.

Lots of hard drive thrashing going on for me at first. Seems to have calmed down a bit though.

Size depends on the machine. It says so in the release notes. PowerBooks seem to be getting the full 97MB, desktops less.

They seem to have fixed Sherlock (I know, who cares...). Anyway, no need to go dump your cache to make it work. You can quit and reopen ...normally.

FFS - You do realise that certain macs only need certain aspects of the Operating System don't you? One of Tiger's features (or was it Panther's) was that software update would only update those aspects of your system which are necessary. i.e. a G4 wouldn't need the same updates as a G5.

It does feel snappier(TM) on my iBook. The animation in the Dock seems to be much smoother and Apps seem to start faster too

For some reason, Spotlight seems to have reindex some stuff for a few minutes...

About the same as most people experience after a regular reboot then

No that's not the 'reboot effect' as I had rebooted just before the update.

They haven't fixed the only problem I had:
when I delete an email from the trash, it comes right back once... That is with a .Mac IMAP and "Mail" app.

I have always used the "Install and keep" option and installed that package from the G5 on my iBook afterwards in the assumption that all machines get the same update.

Nifty. I checked around a bit, and the only app I found that was Universal so far was the control panel driver for my USB-WiFi plug. Still waiting on the Spotlight support for that feature, though...

I'm still having FTP problems. I have to drop my firewall to fully connect to FTP servers. It can't retrieve the data. Has been this way ever since I first install Tiger.

Spotlight is a lot faster now too; I can actually get to an app with three letters in less than a second.

I gave up and downloaded the combo update from the web. Oddly enough, my g/f Powerbook on the same network downloaded and installed fine through SU.

Wow. I just tried it out. It's a LOT faster.

I didn't use Spotlight much before due to its slowness (mainly its find-as-you-type feature couldn't keep up with my typing). I will definitely be using it more now.
