Wow, is that some crappy animation or what? The Pixar shorts from the 80's looked better than this.

It's almost so bad, I get the feeling they're ... going for that look of bad, stiff animation. Well, rock on.

It looks so bad, its funny.

I might have to take my 9yr old brother to it when it comes out... he'd get a kick out of it.

Don't try to outweird me, I get stranger things than you free with my breakfast cereal.

After films like The Incredibles, like Ice Age, and all the other recent computer animated features that have come out recently, the animation sure does look bad. But the story may be actually more important than the visuals. Or the trailer may be from incomplete work... Whatever, it looks funny and I may actually go see it.

It actually made me laugh. The animation is simple, but not crappy as a whole. It's just not what we are used to doe to Pixar etc. What is crappy and really annoying is the mouth synchronisation, which is like 1995… As ghporter said, this might be pre-release material. I'm looking foreward to it's release!

The story is what matters. I think the animation is rough, very rough.

I'd read of some groups trying to reduce the cost of producing 3D CG films, maybe they cut too many corners. All in all, if the animation doesn't keep you from getting into the story (and assuming the story is better tan chicken little) it'll be alright.

In which case, they shouldn't be showing it!

It's not THAT bad.

If you want to see some kickass computer animation, check out Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children.

On a sidenote - H.264 is just plain f***ing awesome. The trailer is only 13.5 MB!

Reggie, I agree that they shouldn't show incompletely rendered animation as part of a trailer. It definitely looks like it's two steps short of completely rendered, though. It's on a par with kids' TV show computer animation, and it could be the producers were going for that look, too. I'm going to be interested in seeing how this develops.

This looks like some of the junky 3D-animated cartoons they make for daytime kids shows. Yeesh!

On the bright side, it can't have cost much money to make! (Which is good, considering it pribably won't win an Academy Award or anything.)

The animation in South Park can't be considered crappy if it's appropriate to the content and story it presents. It's actually come to be rather well done.

I wouldn't enjoy South Park as much if it looked like a Pixar movie

I agree, but when I first saw Southpark I thought "wow, what crappy animation." Now I love it. All I'm saying is the old adage "don't judge a book by its cover."

Ice Age had pretty crappy animation. And a bad story. And it wasn't funny.

And they had Ray Romano doing one of the main parts. *shiver*

It looks almost like claymation, I wonder if that's the look they were going after?

The story looks to have potential though.

Looks like they're trying to merge the old claymation like from those late '60s films like Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer with modern computed animation.

Looks bad.

Story looks OK.

I predict a 92.719% chance that I will not be seeing the finished movie.

...and? It's an animation – whether it's Shrek2-like detail or Beauty and the Beast doesn't matter either way as far as I'm concerned. It's still animation, and a good animated movie is made by its story, not by the level of graphic detail.

That's just my opinion. But you can have amazing animation in a totally crap movie – see Final Fantasy for that. A great movie is great no matter who rendered it.

In that case, Gigli was quite good considering that they were probably going for the "B-Movie" style.

I like it - it looks pretty funny. As far as the animation I agree it looks intentional, more like a CG version of a comic book then CG trying to look like reality.

^^^ Definitely. Hints of stop-motion animation going on, especially in regards to lip movements.

Hope it's a good story.

Saw this one today, found it hilarious. Much funnier than Shrek! Love the style of humor here. Dry, witty, sarcastic and self-referencing. Totally not what I expected at all. Didn't even think once about the animation - it fit perfectly for what they were going for.

I was kind of bored during parts, but it definitely had its moments, and the self-referencing jokes were great!
