I just got one. http://lavaworld.com/

52 .oz green in a clear liquid. Picked it up at Spencer's for $20.

I've always wanted one but never would think about it when I was at the mall. Then my co-worker put one on his desk last week and that made me go out and get one as well.

I've had one since 2000 but the bulb burnt out 3 years ago and I couldn't be bothered to replace it.

Went though a phase with them a couple of years ago. The downsides for me which made me put the thing in a closet and never look back.

a.) They take awhile to warm up and work properly. There's no spontaneity in coming home, flipping a switch and having the thing look good right away.

b.) They're kind of fragile. If the box yours comes in is mishandled, all the gel will be fragmented into little dots and it won't glob properly.

That's about it. I think I got two with the fragmented gel. By the time I got a "good" one, I was over it.

I shook mine once for some reason and that happened but it fixes itself over time.

The guy who invented the lava lamp went to my former University. We all had lava lamps there.

Mine is out in the garage somewhere.
