What happened to it? RichardS was supposed to be writing that app that would suck all the ID3 info out of MP3's and rename all your MP3 files to take advantage of 255 character filenames, but unless I've missed the release ... it's not here yet.
Still working on it? Any news? I'm still waiting, it sounded like a great app!

Is MP3 Rage free?
Sorry, I just haven't bothered spending any time whatsoever researching this topic.

it's free for 30 days I believe. I used it a few times to rename and get a few things then deleted it. Now, when I DL new mp3s i don't need to shorten the names.

MP3 Rage may rename them fine (I haven't tried this myself) but one major problem still remains: it truncates the names of newly-downloaded files. Why??? if it can handle 255 characters in the rename function, why not in the download? rage truncates in the middle and replaces with a "" similar to that the Finder does (except when the Finder does it, it's only cosmetic).
For example, I downloaded the file:
OLDIES - Chuck Berry - Earth Angel.mp3
But Rage saved it as:
OLDIES - Chuck Earth Angel.mp3
Maxter, on the other hand, saves the file just fine. And it's Cocoa too! The only problems with Maxter I've found are the goofy icon, the restrains on the minimum size of the downloads window, and the occasional jam when it tries connecting to a busy OpenNap server.

What apps are you using that preserve filenames? I'll check out Maxter.
