Hi I am a noob here and just this week came back to mac after a 8 year hiatus. Anyway, I purchased a new 12" PowerBook and a 20" Apple Cinema Disp. I have setup the laptop and followed the 6 step instructions for setting the monitor up. I get power and the monitor shows up in monitor preferences, however, there is nothing displayed on the 20" screen.
I have spoke to apple this morning and their best advice was to drive 70 miles to the nearest apple store to see if they could try to hook it up and see if it is a hardware issue or something else.
Do any of you have some advice on what could be wrong?

Just as an FYI, There is a short in the DVI line, if I squeeze it, the display works. Apple has authorized a return.
Thanks.

You might have to adjust settings in System Preferences.. depending on what mode you won't it to be in... mirror mode or dual setup. Give that a try..

If it works when you play around with a cable then that means that the monitor is bad.
That is the one thing I hate about apples displays a propritary connector.

You mean "a connector that is unremovably attached to the monitor", right?
Because Apple stopped using proprietary connectors a few years ago, when they switched from ADC to standard DVI (thank god).

It was definately a bad connector cable. I am heading to the apple store today to get it replaced. I don't want to wait another week to get the replacement from apple.
