I don't think this has been done before, at least recently...

I created this graphic for a myriad of reasons, but now I have nothing to do with it but create a thread! This is a timeline of my Macs (There's also a Mac Plus and a Performa you could tack on 10 years back, but...)

So post your Mac timeline! You could just make it text, and you don't need to include bought and sold prices, I just did those for my own reasons.

Basically just put a name, general bought date, and a general sold/threw out date. Or just a list of all the Macs you've had. I'm interested to see who goes back the farthest or who has been the most constant, who stuck with old machines the longest, etc.

If I'd have known there'd be a thread like this I would've paid attention to when I bought and sold all of my old Macs.

Shucks!

Let's see.

1989 SE FDHD
1991 Quadra 900
1993 Quadra 840 AV
1894 Power Mac 8100/80
I forget the date but a Umax J700 Supermac
2000 Power Mac G4/400
2004 Power Mac G5 1.8DP
2007 Mac Pro 3.0

There are a few Apple laptops in there as well.

Even though the current Mac has 2 TB HDD, 2 optical drives, 6 GB RAM, a X1900XT video card and a 7300GT video card, the single most expensive Mac on my list in the Quadra 900. It was $7,000. The most reliable Mac, or at least the Mac I remember as being the most reliable was the G5 1.8 DP.

1995-2001: Performa 6115CD (60Mhz PPC, 8MB of RAM & 350MB hard drive) - Was later upgraded with a 300Mhz G3 processor, 72MB of RAM, 4GB hard drive, and a A/V card with 2MB of video memory. Upgraded to the max!

2000-2005: iMac DVSE (400Mhz G3, 256MB of RAM & 13GB hard drive) - Upgraded the RAM to 512MB and the hard drive to 60GB.

2002 to 2007: PowerBook G4 (800Mhz, 512MB of RAM & 40GB hard drive) - Upgraded the hard drive to 60GB when the original died.

2005 to present: Mac Mini (1.25GHz G4, 512MB of RAM & 40GB hard drive) - The Mini replaced my iMac when it died. Upgraded the RAM to 1GB and hard drive to 80GB.

June 2007 to present: iPhone 8GB

June 2007 to present: Black MacBook w/ 2.16GHz - I bought it the same day as the iPhone. The MacBook is replacing the PowerBook G4. Upgraded the RAM last week to 3GB. Just in time for Leopard.

I never sold off any of my Macs. I either kept them until they died (Performa & iMac) or handed them down to family members (PowerBook).

Slick shoes?! Are you crazy?!

My computing journey began when I used a Mac Plus and later a Classic at my father's workplace to do my homeworks, when I was in elementary school (late 80's, early 90's). They I acquired:
  • 1995 - Performa 6200CD (75 MHz, 8 MB RAM (later upgraded to, gasp, 24!), which required at least 3 motherboard exchange... I also destroyed a few punching bag because of this machine.. It crashed all the time, lost my files, etc...)
  • 1997 - PowerMac 7300/200 with 128 MB RAM, pretty good machine
  • 2003 - iMac G4 1 GHz, 1.5 GB RAM
  • 2007 - Intel iMac (mid-2007) C2D 2.4 GHz, 3 GB RAM

First original Mac. I bought it in 85, and used it up until 89. By then I was disinterested in computers. It was all about the guitar and the big V.

94 I think I bought a 75mhz 6205 Poopforma.

Then a original iMac

Next a 350mhz B/W Yosemite G3 tower.

And finally, this 1.25GHZ G4 that I am still using.

Next year is the year I'll upgrade.

660 Quadra AV, bought in 1998 for my daughter, but she didn't use it much, as she was dating my future SIL

350MHz G3 B&W bought in March 2000; most unstable computer I've ever owned. Frequently froze at random intervals. Spent almost as much time in the shop as at my place, so after six months, the dealer sold me brand new

450Mhz Graphite G4 at the same price I'd paid for the demo G3.

800Mhz iMac 17" FP bought in Aug 2002; still my daily use machine.

1.3Ghz G4 iBook, bought in July 2005, when I was driving a semi. Sold that this past April to my ex, who'd been telling me, for 15 years, that Macs were only for playing around on and for graphics, and they weren't for small office/business (she has a private practice as a psychologist). She entered a new relationship in March, with a Mac fan, and two weeks after buying my iBook, my ex went to an Apple store and bought a new MacBook Pro, as she loved the Mac so much she wanted the bigger screen on the Pro!
Why is there always money for war, but none for education?
