G'day all and sundry,

About 4 months ago I came here looking for a G5 case to mod to suit PC gear, because 'that' particular case is AWESOME

And I was linked to this site Overclockers.com

Although the individual in that article aquired his case free of internals, I would not be as fortunate, and being a 'horder of IT' would be unable to part with the new G5's internals and thus end up looking for a case for them etc.

Anyway the purpose of this thread, is to introduce you all (if you weren't already familiar with) to the G5 clone made by the FSB group of Taiwan, dubbed the FSP-7103H

Specifications
FSP Midtower Case with 350W Power Supply
G5 Mesh Design

* Colour For F/P Coating / Plating: Silver
* Case Body Coating / Plating: Silver
* SECC Steel Metal & O.D.3 mm Holes / 7 Slots
* Dimension: 190*426*450mm (W*H*D)
* M/B: Full ATX Size
* Blue Colour LED*2, Green Colour LED*1
* Screwless For Drive Bay
* Handle * 4 Pieces
* Filter For Left, Right & Top Panel
* PE Foam & Colour Box Packing

So now I can have my cake and eat it too!

Where to start...

1. The handles stink.

2. There's no need for more than 2 optical bays. Seriously they should have nixed the others, especially the floppy bays.

3. That stupid side window.

Personally I'd rather have a lian li with handles soldered on + buffed down.

Usually it's better to come up with an original idea than half-ass copy an existing one.
We need less Democrats and Republicans, and more people that think for themselves.

no. thats not what was said.

forge your own case and design something original. if you're not using a powermac, you will not have the design that comes with a powermac. deal with it.

Well thanks for all that Positive feedback!

I guess it's like trying to engineer a Chevy 'donk' into a Ford... or make a silken purse out of a sow's ear

Not everyones cup of tea... but as far as asthetics are concerned, it's a hellova' lot MORE attractive than a stock beige miditower, by a country mile!

Each to his/her own... I just felt like sharing a little of what going on outside the world of MAC

Why would you NEED so many drive bays? simple...

* DVD-ROM
* CD-RW
* Musketeer (monitor temps)
* 5.25 Baybus (control Neon tubes & lighting)
* Iomega ZIP drive
* 3.5" FDD (old faithful)

Modder's think outside the square!

FWIW, when I first saw pics of the G5 I thought they looked really ugly. Then I went to a store and checked one out in person, and decided they weren't that ugly, but still not, IMO, the best case that Apple has ever designed. Pictures don't tell the whole story.

Zip drive? Is Iomega still in business? On the plus side, with cdr media so cheap that you use it as floorcovering, you probably don't have to fight people for that Zip media.

3.5" FDD? Oooooooookay. Whatever.

Neon tubes and lighting are tacky. That's another of those things going on in the PC world that no one wants to hear about. The fact that people would sacrifice a 5.25" drive bay cover for controlling that superfluous stuff is scary.

IMHO don't pose and try to make your PC look like a mac. I'm not a mac fanboy by any means... PCs outnumber the macs in my house atleats 8 to 1... I stil don't think it's cool to try to make your PC look like a mac. I do agree that it's sometimes useful to have more than two optical drives especially if you do a lot of DVD backups or other such burns. I currently have a 52x CDRW, 4x DVD+/-RW, and 16x DVD reader in my PC. I built it all in a stylish Lian-Li pc 65 usb (black) and it looks great. I like having 4 drive bays for things like that. The Lian-Li cases are very clasy and nicely built - I wouldn't see why you would want to go with a knock off G5 case. It doesn't look anything like the real thing so you wont be fooling anyone. But to each his own I guess... if you like it I'm sure you can get one if you try hard enough.

i got a free g5 case from my father's friend since i did some graphic design for them. I converted it into a pc pimpin' stuff. Im just just going to let a G5 case rot. Unless i can buy a G5 mobo lol

The case has a lot of potential. Then again mounting the motherboard took me 2 weeks to complete. Gotta love the ventialation

you might as well get the Lan-li PC-V1000, the internal design of that follows the g5 oddly.

powersupply on the bottom, mobo is inverted like a G5s is

but the HD is on the bottom, and you can fit 6 instead of what a G5 can only fit 2

1) replace with DVD-R/W
2) see 1
3) replace with software monitoring
4) would never stick lights in a computer
5) would never use a ZIP drive
6) don't need floppies.

Modders*

*DVD_RW drive
*fast CD-RW for ripping/burning IF necessary (nothing wrong with 2 drives)
*Why bother with them? oh yeah trying to shorten the lifespan of your processor to get an extra 2% of performance.
*You have GOT to be kidding
*Zip drives? Crap. Get a ****ing flash drive already.
*old faithful?! HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHH
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHHAHA

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!

Dude floppy drives aren't, never were, and never WILL be reliable. They're too small to hold anything worthwile and too delicate to carry anywhere. If you're going to have a floppy drive for retroness why not just go all out, buy yourself a disk ][, plop it on top of the machine, and just leave it there because frankly that's about as much use as you're going to get out of a floppy.

Thanks for posting that, Taz. I always love to see stuff like that.

I found this Lian Li 'G5 Inspired' design interesting and amusing. http://scasp.webnow.biz/upload/a0000...S/prd_1194.jpg

While I am a fan of quality Lian Li cases for my PC's, I prefer their more conservative designs.

Antec make nicer x86 cases then that.
I will never understand why x86 users bag Apple for their "outlandish" styling and then try to imitate them and rip them off.

BTW tazwegion, thanks for posting the image. I enjoy a good laugh.
