Ok so im happily surfing around MacNN looking at threads as you do, when i open a thread (here in the lounge) and a little sound bite plays. Something about never being done for card fraud or something but it was only abut 2 or 3 seconds long if that. It surprised me a bit so i almost wondered if i had heard it. So i start looking to see if i left QT or another safari window open that could have played but there was nothing there so i assumed that somehow someone had attached the sound bite to that thread so when it was opened the bite was played.

Anyway i carry on surfing away happily until a few minutes later i open another thread (again in the lounge) and exactly the same sound bite played. This freaked me out a little bit as the only apps i have open are safari, mail, iTunes and temperature monitor and iTunes wasn't playing anything.

Well im worried enough about my sanity to see if anyone has any idea as to why im hearing these voices!!!! My dad suggested a virus but i dont even want to think about that one

I thought the MacNN staff had once-and-for-all banned audio ads?

(I can't confirm this banner, as I don't see any adverts.)

I heard it too. I don't like ad's with sound, it's intrusive.

We'll look into it; sometimes these ads get into the rotation (out of our control) and then we have to remove them manually.

I was about to post an new thread about it.
It's definietly a bank, HSBC I think.
It says something like "I've never benn overdrawn, never been charged, so...", "that's saved me a lot of money."
I've heard it a lot in the past 2 days.

The audio is back on the annoying ads. This one has a fly (or bee) buzzing around. It is unbelievably annoying.
