I have been having this problem with the machine for about the past week.It usuallly occurs after i wake it from sleep and it can last for a couple of minutes. It recently now also happens when it is now sleeping? Anyone have an idea what it could be? It's getting annoying. Do you think applecare will cover it?

2 hours. Patience, please...

First try to isolate where the buzz is coming from. Is it one of the fans (There are 3, IIRC)? Is it something else that is simply vibrating?

If it is truly happening while it i sleeping (and not just when the screen is off), then it sounds like something from the power supply. In that case, Applecare may cover it as Apple had an issue with power supplies on that model.

I will call applecare. The noise is coming from the bottom of the imac and is located in the area between the apple logo and the bottom right hand corner. What is interesting is that my power supply was replaced recently.

Well i called apple and when through the usual of reseting the pram. The machine does fall under the logic board extension program however since i did not show all the symptoms they could not do an onsite repair. Whilst i was talking to the technician he mentioned that one should not put there machines to sleep all the time and should shut them down at night. He also said it can screw up a chip on the logic-board. Is this true? But i had previously been told that its fine to keep it on sleep. So i wanted to know if it is fine to put it on sleep?

It is fine to keep machines sleeping. Sounds like the guy was trying to get you to think it's your fault (which is possible, but its not because you keep your computers asleep.)
