Quake 3 1.29 running on OS 9: 61.1 fps in demo FOUR
Quake 3 1.29 running on CLASSIC in OS X: 49.9 fps in demo FOUR
Quake 3 1.29 running on OS X: 46.8 fps in demo FOUR
Need I say more?
These are all using the same config file (yes I dragged it across into the folder in 'application support') It running worse in OS X that OS 9 is bad enough but it running better in CLASSIC than X native is just WRONG! WRONG I tell you!

What Mac is this on? if I turn off the sound in OSX I get better fps than I can get in OS9. The main reason I can't play Quake 3 is OSX is that the mouse movement has been all Fcuked up.

What you report about your Classic performance is not surprising. Several threads and reports have confirmed that applications run better in Classic than Natice OSX.
****, most apps I used right now run better in Classic than OSX.
I.E opens with one 'bounce' when using Classic, compared to around 8-10 for the Carbon version.
But yeah, I can see how your results seem weird. I mean, Classic is supposed to be an 'emulator' at best, yet it outperforms native OSX. It is indeed weird.

Yeah but that's like saying "if I turn all the graphics options down to the minimum then I get better fps than I do in 9"...so what?? It should at LEAST run the same, if not better with the same settings, I shouldn't need to further tweak my config
