Keep your MSN Hotmail account active by signing in at least once a month. If you do not sign in for 30 days, your account will become inactive and:

-You will lose all messages and attachments currently in your Inbox and other folders.

-All incoming e-mail messages will bounce back to the sender.

-You will lose all contacts in your Contacts list.

This information cannot be recovered, so be sure to sign in at least once a month.

You can avoid the hassle of signing in once a month by subscribing to MSN Hotmail Plusour new enhancement to MSN Hotmail Extra Storage. As an MSN Hotmail Plus member, you are exempt from the inactivity policy.

If I don't use it at least once a month, what makes them think I want to pay for it?

On the contrary: I let them roam free in the wilderness of the internet. That`s an act of kindness if you ask me.

Signing into MSN Messenger doesn't count as a logging into Hotmail. I have an account just for Messenger which still works even when the mail bit has been deactivated.

Hotmail is getting bumped up to a 250Mb mailbox limit with 10Mb message limit as from "Autumn". How soon this will really be, I'm not sure, but they have to keep up with Lycos and GMail I suppose, and bigger file sizes now that broadband internet is more popular.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

Thing is, you can use MSN with any email account - just that most people don't know this. I use MSN and just use my normal (non hotmail) email address.

It's so they can delete all the mail boxes created by users when their original mail box gets overloaded with SPAM. That way you can toggle between two email accounts when either one gets spammed out.

I didn't know this for the longest time, until I saw my cousin using his own email address.

30 days ? Hotmail is useless if not checked every couple of days. That's about how long it takes for an account to be filled with spam, garbage and junk, thus preventing any other mail to get through, because of the microscopic storage limit.

Anybody who loses their Hotmail account, should think of it as a good thing.
