a seven year old girl? My uncle is thinking about getting one for my cousin, and he asked me if it was a good idea.
How is the computer? Is it quiet? Is it so quiet you can't hear it? Can the machine withstand the prodding that seven year old girls will give it?
Anything he should know before buying one?

Thanks,

Scott

7 year old girl. Unless they wont mind if the computer gets knocked over the edge of the table, I'd say get an emac. Very capable machine, especially for a 7 year old and half the cost of an iMac, but I am the biggest penny pincher I know so don't be too discouraged.

The system itself isn't the problem, it's the LCD screen. You'd either have to admonish her to avoid touching the screen, or get an eMac.

Seriously. Or a basketball.
Or, for a 7 year old, a used machine. She's unlikely to be pushing this thing to the limit... not until she's 10 or so anyway .

I second the eMac idea. My kids are almost 7 and they use a $549 refurbished eMac. They love this computer, it stays on the desk and is easy to clean. You should see how dirty the CRT gets.

When they get older and care about burning CDs or DVDs I'll put a DVD-R in there.
