For MacNN, the guideline is 200px X 50px, though anything less than that is fine too. An easy method for making one is scaling an image down to that size, such as dragging it into the 200px X 50px box and resizing it directly once placed in it. (In Photoshop, just use the transform via edit menu) Optionally, you could add a 1px border to it. Check out the tutorials here.
