"Thanks for installing real one for Ma..........." *spinning beachball*

The interface is cute. Not as annoying as previous Real player interfaces.

I've actually been surprised at the quality of the program. It's very stable and workinging for me, and hasn't tried to take over all my media types like older versions tried to. No ads or anything, either, and it even has Omniweb in the list of default browsers!

After the second launch it took a minute though

Your right. But you know what? I could care less now because I can play all the content (that I care about) on the web now! And it lets me select OmniWeb as my preferred Browser (nice touch).

OMG... I just did a check of my system... I couldn't find any spyware and it didn't try to put it's file associations on everything on my computer. Did someone at Realnetworks die or did they just get a clue that people don't want that crap?!?

It reconises it's own proprietary formats (.rm, .ram, ect.) but Audion is still my default MP3 Player and MPEG is still associated to Quicktime. Maybe the Developers are too lazy to write out all the code or something...

Seems to work fine for me here, one more reason not to use classic.

I am surprised how nice it looks and how well it works. Still detest RealMedia but it's a start.

No beachballs here, looks good so far.

i want to know-

WHERE ARE THE THEMERS AT? This is a nifty skin, i wonder what a theme would look like.

Actually, where are all the new themes that were due out. It's like all the themers were kidnapped by Apple or something.

Since day one, I have hated Real Inc. and everything associated with it. A college professor of mine FORCED me into encoding EVERYTHING we did in a real codec. That was during their four diferent players days... But...

I must hand it to them. This seems rather stable, and it quality is nice. I usually don't give Real a second glance, but this makes me hate them less the Microsoft... Umm, on second thought, they are now tied...

On an iMac 400 MHz w/128 MB I found it to be 'snappy', crisp playback, and very smooth. Very quicktimy interface too. Not too shabby.

I don't think the Player is using Aqua interface resources as such at all, which is a shame. One clue: when you swich to 'graphite' mode - as everyone who isn't 6 probably does - it still retains its butt-ugly traffic-light widgets. Another clue: the widgets 'rollover' individually, rather than all at once, Aqua-style.

So RealPlayerX, it's butt-ugly, but at least it works well enough (for me ) i.e. better than any OS 9 version ever did.

Anyone else think it faintly amusing that a few minutes after the guy from Real gets to anounce RealPlayer for X, Steve starts talking about QuickTime 6 and how great it is NOT using a proprietary format...

Guess what the future of RealNetworks is? It's MPEG-4.

Edit: I see that QT and RealOne need a plug-in to view that material in the link.

You probably don't want to hear this but I installed and launched RealOne Player and ran it without any problems. I thought it is pretty good for a beta version.
Since the BBC uses RealPlayer exclusively I no longer have to launch Classic to enjoy their audio and video programmes.

It works great for me as well. Not one single crash since I installed it. Can view most real media, Real video streams and Real audio streams without any problems. Infact it is like a completely new product and 100% better than the OS 9 version which constantly crashed.

I agree. I'm very impressed with this, considering the source. No ads, not much ugly, good spokesperson...

But, I have some old simpsons episodes in RM format, and a few are corrupted, meaning in OS 9 that I could watch them but couldn't seek. Well, they just crash the carbon player immediately, so, one point off for that. But it is a beta I guess
