Lost in Translation and the Royal Tennebaums were fantastic.

And the Brothers Grimm was certainly flawed, but on a worst movies of all time list? That's pushing it. I was occasionally pretty funny, had a clever story idea and some cool visuals. Just did not live up to it's potential.

After watching "Equilibrium" this thread came to mind. This movie has got to be one of the worst films I have ever seen, in just about every aspect a movie can be bad in.

I know, that's the sad part. However, thankfully it seems many critics agree with me.

"It's super- violent, super-serious and super-stupid."
-- Mick LaSalle, SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE
"Equilibrium the movie, as opposed to the manifesto, is really, really stupid."

""Equilibrium" is like a remake of "1984" by someone who's seen "The Matrix" 25 times while eating Twinkies and doing methamphetamines."

-- Stephen Hunter, WASHINGTON POST
"Equlibrium could pass for a thirteen-year-old's book report on the totalitarian themes of 1984 and Farenheit 451."
-- Ed Gonzalez, SLANT MAGAZINE
In the spirit of Discrete math:
p: You liked this movie
q: You are not a moron

I offer the following proposition:
p -> !q

Here's a truth table for you, in case you need some help figuring that out:
Code:
--------------- p q | p -> !q --------------- T T | F T F | T <-- this is probably you F T | T F F | T ---------------

I just watched doom. I seriously think it is the #1 worst of all time. It is sooo soooo boring! Nothing buy guys walking down corridors arguing.

I had to fast forward through the last hour stopping the odd time they actually shot at something. The 5 minutes of first person view is the best part of it although watching a guy use a giant gun to shoot a zombie in track pants isn't all that exciting.

That reminds me (since you're talking about bad foreign movies). When I was visiting China, I saw an Indian Bollywood movie (with all the dancing and stuff), dubbed into Chinese... except that it was a US gangster movie. ie. Plump Indian men dressed up in 1930s Chicago gangster outfits with great big guns, dancing to bad Indian music, but speaking Chinese with crappy dubbing Bruce Lee style.

But... I actually enjoyed it, at least more so than stuff like Showgirls or Waterworld.

Xanadu and Ultraviolet.

I'd have to say Ultraviolet takes the cake though. For a movie I actually saw in the theater and paid real money to see, too.

P.S. That was on "date night" and it was my wife's turn to pick. So I get to continually make fun of her for that choice.

P.S. Has anyone ever sat thru The Postman? I couldn't bring myself to sit through it when it came on TV. I saw a few minutes of it and that was enough.

For me, the worst kind of movie is a pretentious movie.

I recently saw The Scorpion King. Yeah: bad acting, bad dialog, dumb plot. But it wasn't meant to be regarded as serious or important. If you want to see sword-fights, sand dunes, and skin, it wasn't bad.

So, here's my list of pretentious films:

The Da Vinci Code
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within
Signs
Heathers
King Kong (2005)
A.I.
American Graffiti
anything with "Star Trek" in the title except Wrath of Khan
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
2001

Angelina and Winona were both in Girl, Interrupted, which is an absolute must-see.

Mr and Mrs Smith was also a fun flick.

Saw it on DVD. If I'd been watching it in the cinema, I would have walked out pretty early.

What Meatlof video was Angelina in? I must have missed that one. (Yes, I like Meatloaf, and have for nearly 30 years...)

I liked Signs as a one-off film. But all of Shaymalan's films are one-offs for me; I've never been tempted to see one a second time.

I LIKE National Treasure. I saw it three times in the theater and bought the DVD as soon as it came out. It's not Citizen Kane, but it's fun.

Here's a new one: Kingdom of Heaven. It's beautifully photographed, enormously full of detail and history, and DULLLLLLLLL! We got through all of the setup for the final confrontation and still said "let's watch something else." It's pretty, and the acting is great, but the story is so sloooowwwwww.

That movie has a Gyllenhaal in it. In my book that's as bad as being produced by a Bruckheimer.
