It snowed today. In Louisiana. In March, of all times. This is the first time in 20 years that I've lived here that it has snowed twice in a single winter. Most years it doesn't snow at all.
Anyhoo, here are some from the first half of the day. All taken with my trusty Canon 85mm f/1.8
My girl didn't like the snow. She stood two inches in front of the snow line on the porch, growling for like 30 seconds.

You know, it's a nice shot, but I must confess I'm not a fan of the coloring. I find too many shots these days have been over-Photoshopped and they get a computer-animated look to them. I'm getting that vibe here.
I think it'd be better if the darker areas didn't have such obviously vivid colours. Not only would it be more "realistic" but it wouldn't detract or be so distracting from the picture's real focus, the sunset.

sounds good, and I kind of agree. Problem is my results out of about 15 pictures were sort of subpar. I'll look thru them and see what's what. Thanks!

Here's one of my favorites just because I was amazed at how well the macro on my camera worked out for this particular shot. This little guy was approximately an inch to an inch and a half in length.

Great shots there Jawbone. Particularly like the dog ones. The snow looks great, although I'm thankful I'm just looking at pictures of it. Heh.

Thank you, Erik. I'm glad the snow doesn't come around very often here. The crazy hot, humid summers don't seem quite so bad when the weather is so windy, cold, and wet. I'm ready to hop in the pool.

Too much distraction by the background in my opinion, probably because the photo was taken with the kit lens or a relatively large aperture. Interesting fella, though

Anyone in here think I'd be gaining much in image quality switching from an XTi to a 40D?
And now for a photo. You Flickr contacts might have already seen it, but oh well.

Whoa! Good catch on Aperture 2.
Yeah, I'm definitely loving the gamma vignette. Tons better than the vignette in Lightroom.

there should be a thread for pics that don't require critique but rather commentary.

I'll see your peacock and raise you my most viewed and favourited shot:
I was trying to get a shot like yours ironically, but the damn (wild) peacock wouldn't spread them

Not seeing the irony. I thought the shot itself was fairly average. The aggressive editing seems to be what made it popular.

I found it amusing that you "raised" my photo with the very next one I was editing.
There's just so many ways you can shoot a peacock I guess.

True. The expression "raised" wasn't meant to mean that my photo was necessarily better. I just happened to have a peacock photo on Flickr myself
Anyway it turns out I lied. This photo got to #35 on the Flickr 500 top most interesting photos:

When you convert a peacock picture to black and white, does it look like a speckled turkey?
